Kerala Culture Minister K C Joseph announced the setting up of India’s first International Institute of Music in Kerala. The entire responsibility of setting up of the Institute has been entrusted with the Trust headed by Sarod Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. The state government will provide only land. The other infrastructure facilities will be built by a trust managed by Khan’s family.
Knowledge is Wealth
- Amjad Ali Khan is one of the 20th century’s greatest masters of the Sarod.
- Khan was conferred with the Padma Shri (1975), the Padma Bhushan (1991), and the Padma Vibhushan (2001).
- In April 2014, Khan was honored with NDTV Indian of the Year Award.
- Khan teaches Sarod at Stanford University for three months in a year.
