India to host the 8th edition of ICAS (ICAS-VIII) for the first time in New Delhi

The 8th edition of the International Conference on Agricultural Statistics (ICAS-VIII), for the first time is to be hosted by India, from November 18-21 2019 in New Delhi. Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra Director General of ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) & Secretary of Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) inaugurated the logo of the conference. The conference will be inaugurated by the Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shri Narendra Singh Tomar. The Chief guest of the event will be Bill Gates (original name William Henry Gates III), co-founder of Microsoft Corporation.

Theme: The theme for the 2019 conference is “Statistics for Transformation of Agriculture to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.

Conference Aim: The aim of the conference is to address challenges faced in producing data to report on the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) and to obtain/finalise best practises in agriculture statistics.India to host 8th global conference on agri-statisticsKey Points:

i.Conference organisers: The conference will be organised by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, International Statistical Institute-Central Administration of Statistics(ISI-CAS), Food and Agriculture Organisation(FAO), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Asian Development Bank(ADB), World Bank (WB), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Eurostat, African Development Bank (AfDB) and various other organizations.

ii.Participants: Over 600 delegates from 108 countries are expected to participate in the event.

iii.Previous/7th edition: The 7th/previous edition of the conference was conducted in the year 2016 in Rome, Italy. The conference is held once every 3 years, with it first conference conducted in the year 1998.
