Goa signs MoU with NSDC for advanced skills institute

Goa’s Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (DSDE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for setting up a World-Class Skill Development Institute to provide Advanced Skills Training under “Skill India Mission”.

The MoU was signed virtually by Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Mahendra Nath Pandey and Goa Skill Development Minister, Vishwajit Rane.

Highlights:

i.The institute is proposed to be set up at the heritage building of Old Asilo Hospital, Mapusa, North Goa. 

ii.The institute will provide Advanced Skills training in highly specialized areas across sectors like healthcare, tourism and hospitality and other emerging business domains to meet industry demands.

iii.The institute will cater to students not only from Goa, but also from across the country and the world. 

iv.The Training for the Marginalized People will be given under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).

v.NSDC’s programs such as Technical Intern Training Program (TITP) and India International Skill Centres (IISC) will aim to provide international placements to local students. 

Terms of the Agreement:

i.Government to provide land for establishing the Skills Institute. 

ii.NSDC and DSDE will short-list job roles and identify Training Partners (TP) to operationalise skill training in the institute.

iii.The Skill Development project will be implemented as per National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF).

iv.The assessments and certifications are to be granted by the respected Sector Skill Councils(SSCs).

ii.On 10th July 2020, Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship(MoSDE) launched the Atma Nirbhar Skilled Employee-Employer Mapping (ASEEM) portal, to improve the information flow and bridge the demand-supply gap in the skilled workforce market.It is developed and managed by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in collaboration with Betterplace.
