City Innovation Exchange (CiX) Launched for Fostering Innovation in Urban EcosystemOn February 25, 2021 Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs(MoHUA) launched the City Innovation Exchange (CiX) platform at an online event.

Aim: To foster innovative practices in cities by adopting solutions that increase the quality of life for its residents and significantly improve the Ease of Doing Business.

The platform through an ‘open innovation’ process engages with innovators across the national ecosystem to design innovative solutions for the pressing challenges of the cities.

i.It is designed on the philosophy of ‘everyone is an innovator’

ii.This is among the  ongoing efforts of the Government to realise Prime Minister’s vision of New and AtmaNirbhar Bharat.

About CiX platform

Purpose

The platform facilitates the discovery, design and validation of solutions through a strong , transparent and user-centric process that minimizes barriers for innovators and cities to find suitable solutions.

Unites

It unites Citizen Organisations-Academia- Businesses- Government to co-create the future of Urban India. The Smart Cities Mission will partner and collaborate with Startup India, Atal Innovation Mission, Accelerating Growth of New India’s Innovations(AGNIi) and other initiatives in the Indian Innovation ecosystem.

Benefits

  • It will benefit cities to translate  ideas from ‘labs’ to the real world, through  interaction with the Academia andBusinesses/Startups.
  • Likewise, by helping urban governments interact with citizens, it  will ensure adoption of tested solutions that will be effective and sustainable.

Note: The Platform has  over 400 start-ups, 100 smart cities, more than 150 challenges statements and over 215 solutions at the time of launch.
