Department of Higher Education selects 16 teachers from HEIs and Polytechnics for National Awards to Teachers (NAT) 2024 New

The Department of Higher Education (DoHE), Ministry of Education (MoE) has selected 16 teachers in the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Polytechnic for National Awards to Teachers (NAT) 2024.

  • The selected teachers will be felicitated by the President Draupadi Murmu on the occasion of National Teachers’ Day 2024 on September 5 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi,Delhi.
  • The awardees will receive a silver medal and a certificate worth Rs 50,000.

About National Awards to Teachers (NAT) :

i.NAT is given for the exemplary teachers/faculty members of higher education institutions and polytechnics in two categories:

ii.The category I includes the teachers of HEI with the following sub-categories:

  • Sub-category I: Engineering & Technology, Architecture.
  • Sub-category II: Pure Sciences including Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy
  • Sub-category III: Arts and Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Legal Studies, Commerce, Management.

iii.The category II includes the teachers of Polytechnic Institutions.

iv.The teacher’s performance is evaluated based on a number of factors, including outreach activities, research and innovation, sponsored research, faculty development programs, consulting teaching, and teaching-learning effectiveness. Among them outreach and learning effectiveness efforts are given the most weightage.

v.The nominations for NAT, 2024 were invited online through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal.

Note : In 2023, MoE was decided to establish two award categories for HEIs and Polytechnics under the NAT banner, which were previously exclusive to school teachers.
