New health insurance scheme, ‘AB-MGRSBY’ launched in Rajasthan
On September 1, 2019, The Rajasthan state government has launched a new health insurance scheme called Ayushman Bharat-Mahatma Gandhi Rajasthan Swasthya Bima Yojna (AB-MGRSBY) by integrating the Bhamashah Health Insurance Scheme(BSBY) of the State Government and Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna Scheme(AB-PMJAY) of the Central Government.
i. The sum insured now is Rs. 30000 for general diseases and Rs. 3 lakh per year for serious diseases, despite merger with Centre’s AB-PMJAY, which provides coverage of Rs5lakh per year.
ii. Only the natives of Rajasthan can take advantage of this scheme. The poor families covered in any of National Food Security Act (NFSA) and Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 are considered eligible for the scheme………………Click here to Read more

India’s longest electrified rail tunnel in Andhra Pradesh inaugurated by Vice president
On August 28, 2019, the Vice President of India, Shri Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the longest electrified railway tunnel (6.7km) between Cherlopalli and Rapuru costing Rs 437 crores, and the electrified railway line (112km) between Venkatachalam (Krishnapatnam) and Obulavaripalli costing Rs 1,993 crores in Andhra Pradesh.India’s longest electrified rail tunnel in Andhra Pradesh inauguratedKey points
i. Remodelled yard of Guduru railway station and new intercity superfast express between Guduru and Vijayawada were also inaugurated.

Prakash Javadekar launched the new logo and certificate design of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)
The Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting (I&B) and Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar has unveiled the new logo and certificate design of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) at an event in Mumbai, Maharashtra.Key points:
i.
The launching event was done during a special interaction between the film industry of India and board members of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
ii. Apart from Secretary, I & B, Amit Khare, and Chairman, CBFC, Prasoon Joshi, famous industry dignitaries were also present at the meeting.
New logo and identity of CBFC designed by Rohit Devgun in collaboration with NSDL
The design of the new logo has been designed by designer Rohit Devgan in collaboration with the technical support team of National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL).
The new certificate will have QR (Quick Response ) code, from which many types of information can be obtained. The certificate that was issued earlier, many information was given in it and it appeared to be full. However, now it has been changed and the information is less than before.

CGHS Bhawan inaugurated in Sector 13 of R K Puram in New Delhi
On September 1, 2019, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the state-of-the-art Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) Bhawan in Sector 13 of R K Puram in New Delhi in the presence of Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, Member of Parliament, New Delhi, Smt. Preeti Sudan, Secretary (Health), Shri  Sanjeeva Kumar, Spl. Secretary (Health), Dr Atul Prakash, Director (CGHS), Dr Sanjay Jain, Addl Director-HQ (CGHS) along with other senior officers from the Ministry and CGHS. It is the Headquarters of CGHS and has the administrative section, the CGHS Card section, and a state-of-the-art modern and well equipped Wellness Centre.
Key Points:
i.  Present status: CGHS services, started in 1954 from Government of India Market in Delhi, was expanded to only 25 cities till 2014. In the last 5 years (Till 2019), the Modi government has extended it to 71 cities.
ii.Aim: CGHS services should be made available in 100 cities by 2022. Under Ayushman Bharat, 150000 Health and Wellness Centres are planned to come up by 2022.
iii. Annual Health Check-up: The Minister unveiled a new scheme of Annual Health Check-up of CGHS beneficiaries who are pensioners of the age of 75 years and above.

Cultural event ‘Namaste pacific’ organised in Delhi
On August 27, 2019, cultural event ‘Namaste Pacific’ was organised in Delhi jointly by the high commissions of Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji to showcase pacific region cultures in India.

Election Commission of India launches “Electors Verification Programme” voter verification & authentication
On September 1, 2019 The election commission of India (ECI) has launched Electors Verification Programme(EVP), that seeks updation of electoral rolls through crowdsourcing. A special camp was held at the election commission’s headquarters in New Delhi, where National Voters’ Service Portal (NVSP) and Voter helpline app were unveiled by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora. i. Aim:  Improvement of electoral rolls and betterment of the electoral services to the citizens thereby increasing communication between commission and citizens.
ii. The programme which was launched at all India level with 32 Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of India will continue till october 15, 2019.

5th edition of Aqua Aquaria India for the year 2019 held in Hyderabad
On August 30, 2019, The 5th edition of Aqua Aquaria India 2019 was held at Hitex International Convention & Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad, Telangana with the theme “To take Blue Revolution to India’s hinterland”.  It was inaugurated by the Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu. The 3-day biennial event was organized by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) under the Commerce Ministry. It is the largest aquaculture exhibition in India.Key Points:
i. India is the second-largest fish producer in the world with a production of 13.70 million tonnes during 2018-19. It earns 10% of its total exports from fisheries.
ii. The 2017 edition of the Aqua Aquaria India held at Nehru Maidan, Mangalore, Karnataka.
iii. It is the fourth largest exporter of fish in revenue terms with the export earnings of $7 billion.

3-day International Snacks Festival 2019 inaugurated in Hyderabad
On August 30, 2019, A 3-day International Snacks Festival 2019 was inaugurated in Hyderabad, Telangana. It was inaugurated at the Ameerpet Metro station by Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMRL) Managing Director (MD) NVS Reddy, along with secretary to Tourism, Culture & Youth Affairs of Telangana, B Venkatesham and Larsen & Toubro Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) project director MP Naidu and others.
Key Points:
i. It showcased snacks and ethnic sweets from 7 countries and 10 states.
ii. The snacks are sold at 4 metro stations namely Ameerpet, Hitec City, Uppal and the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS).
iii.The event was organized by CLIC ( Culture language Indian Connections) in association with HMR( Hyderabad Metro Rail), L&T Metro, Telangana Tourism and the Department of Language & Culture, Govt of Telangana.

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

INS Sahyadri and Kiltan visit Laem Chabang, Bangkok, Thailand for port call
On August 31, 2019, Two Indian Navy Warships- INS Sahyadri and Kiltan visited Laem Chabang, Bangkok,Thailand for a port call which is scheduled till September 3, 2019, as a part of the Navy’s Overseas Deployment to South East Asia and Western Pacific. Both ships represent the ‘coming of age’ of India’s warship building capabilities.
Key Points:
i. Both the ships are a part of Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet under the Operational Command of Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain, at Visakhapatnam.
ii. INS Sahyadri and Kiltan are multi-role Guided Missile Stealth Frigate and Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette respectively.
iii. On completion of the visit, Indian Navy and Royal Thai Navy ships will participate in a Passage Exercise at sea.

BANKING & FINANCE

ECL Finance Ltd and Central Bank of India entered into an agreement to co-lend to MSMEs
On September 1, 2019, A leading Non-Banking Finance Company (NBFC) & a subsidiary of Edelweiss Financial Services,  ECL Finance Limited and Central Bank of India (CBI) have entered into an agreement for priority sector lending to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).Key points:
i.
This is the first such partnership which was made following the announcement of a progressive co-origination policy issued by the RBI (Reserve Bank of India)in September 2018.
ii. Under this agreement, businessmen will be given loans for various types of products, machinery, and other activities.
iii. Many MSMEs are unable to take loans due to high-interest rates and lack of banking services. Under this partnership, loan facility will be provided to MSMEs working in more than 100 cities of the country.
iv. With this innovative model of loan, MSMEs will be able to take advantage of loans at the cheap interest rate and this will help them to grow their business.

Sabka Vishwas – Legacy Dispute Resolution Scheme operationalised from 1st September 2019
Sabka Vishwas, which is a legacy dispute resolution scheme for tax payers announced by finance minister NirmlaSitharaman in the 2019-20 union budget, has started off with its operation from September 1, 2019 and will be operational till December 31, 2019.
i. The scheme aims to free taxpayers in closing their pending disputes related to legacy Service Tax and Central Excise cases which are now included under Goods and Service Tax(GST).

IIT-Kharagpur and Amazon Web Services collaborates to develop AI portal
On August 27, 2019, the Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur (IIT-KGP) has partnered with e-commerce giant Amazon’s subsidiary, Amazon Web Services (AWS) in developing National Artificial Intelligence Resource Portal (NAIRP) to develop and promote Artificial Intelligence (AI) learning for all AI learners and Practitioners.

i. The NAIRP is powered by Amazon SageMaker (cloud machine learning platform) and is launched with initial funds from the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), as part of the National Digital Library of India platform.

Oleksiy Honcharuk named as a new prime minister of Ukraine
Ukrainian parliament of the 9th convocation appointed Oleksiy Honcharuk, a 35-year-old practicing lawyer, of the political party Servant of the People, as the 17th Prime Minister of Ukraine. His nomination was presented to the Ukrainian Parliament by its President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Mr Honcharuk, Ukraine’s youngest ever head of government, succeeded Volodymyr Borysovych Groysman.Key Points:
i. His candidacy was supported by 290 MPs (Members of Parliament) out of 419 members.
ii. He was a freelance adviser to the former First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, Stepan Kubiv and headed the Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO).

Manoj Mukund Naravane Takes Charge As VC Of Army Staff
On September 1, 2019 Lieutenant General Manoj Mukund Naravane took over as the new Vice chief of Army staff (VCOAS) replacing Lieutenant General Devraj Anbu who was superannuated on August 31, 2019.Key points
i. Awards: Naravane has been awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal (2019), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2017), Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal (2015) for his services.

Lt Gen Anil Chauhan Takes Charge As Eastern Army Commander
On September 1, 2019 Lt General Anil Chauhan took over as Eastern Army commander replacing ManojMukundNaravane who took over as vice chief of the army staff(VCOAS).
Anil Chauhan was given a traditional Guard of Honour at Fort William, Kolkata and he took charge with a wreath laying ceremony at Eastern Command War memorial at Kolkata’s fort William paying tribute to the fallen soldiers.

Paytm Money promotes Pravin Jadhav as its MD and CEO
On September 1, 2019, Paytm Money has promoted Pravin Jadhav as its Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Prior to this, Jadhav was in the position of full-time director.

Jinson Johnson of Kerala brokes his own 1500m national record by winning silver medal in Berlin, qualifies for World C’ships
On September 1, 2019, The Indian middle-distance runner & 2018 Asian Games gold medalist, Jinson Johnson(28) from Kerala has won the silver medal in 1500 meters at the 78th edition of ISTAF (International Sepaktakraw Federation) event 2019 held in Olympiastadion (Olympic Stadium) Berlin, Germany.
Key points:
i.
He finished 2nd behind Joshua Thompson of the United States (US) with a time of 3 minutes 35.24 seconds.
ii. He improved his own national record of 3 minutes 37.62 seconds, which he scored in Nijmegen, Netherlands on June 2018. He also has a national record of 800 meters (1 minute 45.65 seconds) in his name.
iii. He also qualified for the World Championships scheduled to be held in Doha, Qatar from September 28 – October 6, 2019, with this performance. The qualifying time of the World Championship was 3 minutes 36.00 sec.
iv. ISTAF Berlin is part of the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations )World Challenge meetings and a second-tier event in the athletics event.

Shot putter, Tejinderpal Singh Toor clinched silver in Czech Republic, still missed World C’ships standards
Indian shot-putter & Arjuna Awardee, Tejinderpal Singh Toor (24) from Punjab has won the silver medal for India with a best throw of 20.09m in the V. Koci memorial athletics meet 2019 held at Decin, Czech Republic. However, he could not meet the World Championship standards but his brilliant efforts won him the silver medal.Key points:
i.
Thomas Stanek of the Czech Republic won the gold medal by throwing the ball at a distance of 20.86 meters.
ii. Tejinder has a personal best throw of 20.75 meters. He has already qualified for the World Championships as Area Champion. He won the gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships in April 2019. Tejinderpal was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2019.

For the 1st time, Arunachal Pradesh will host 25th  Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2019
For the 1st time, The 25th Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2019 will be held in Pasighat, East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh (AP)from September 10 – 24,2019. The tournament will be hosted by Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA).Key points:
i.
30 teams from across the country including AP, are expected to participate for the championship. Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu will be the chief guest of the event.
ii. The teams have been divided into 8 groups(A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H). Group H consists of Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu &Kashmir (J&K)and Telangana. The inaugural match will be played between Railways and Mizoram.
iii. 24th Senior Women’s National Football Championships 2018 was held in Cuttack, Odisha.
iv. India Women’s Football Championship is the women’s football tournament which is contested by states and government institutions in the country.  It is organized by the All India Football Federation(AIFF).

Charles Leclerc wins maiden 2019 F1 Belgian Grand Prix 
On September 1, 2019, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (21yr) from Monaco, won the 2019 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps circuit marking his maiden victory in the event and became the third-youngest winner in F1(Formula 1) history. It also marks Ferrari’s (Italian luxury sports car manufacturer) first victory in 2019.

i. The second and third place were won by Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton(England) and Mercedes’s ValtteriBottas (Finland) respectively.
ii. His win was dedicated to France’s Anthoine Hubert who died in a car crash during the 2019 FIA (FédérationInternationale de l’Automobile) Formula 2 Championship at the same Spa-Francorchamps circuit on August 31, 2019.

SL cricketer Lasith Malinga becomes highest T20I wicket-taker surpassing Afridi
Srilankan paceman (fast bowler) Separamadu Lasith Malinga on August 31, 2019, became the highest T20I (Twenty-Twenty International) wicket-taker surpassing Pakistan’s all-rounder Shahid Afridi, during the tri-match series of T20I between Srilanka and New Zealand at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy, Sri Lanka. Malinga took a total of 99 wickets from 74 matches surpassing Afridi’s 98 wickets in 99 matches. Key points
i. Malinga previously dismissed South Africa born New zealand cricketer Colin Munro to equal Afridi’s record.

Italian born bodybuilder, powerlifter, actor and author, Franco Columbu  passes away
Italian bodybuilder, powerlifter, actor and author, Franco Columbu (Nicknamed, “the Sardinian Strongman”) has died at the age of 78 in his native Sardinia, Italy.i. Franco started his athletic career as a boxer & advanced into Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, and then bodybuilding.
ii. He won the title of Mr. Olympia in the year 1976 and 1981.
iii. He was best known for his decades-long friendship with Schwarzenegger& also appeared in popular TV series and movies. He acted in Schwarzenegger’s films “The Terminator,” ”The Running Man” and “Conan the Barbarian.” He also authored a book called, Coming On Strong.
iv. He competed in the first World’s Strongest Man competition & finished 5th in the year 1977.

Swedish billionaire Hans Rausing dies at the age of 93
On August 27, 2019 Swedish billionaire Hans Rausing who is credited for turning Pully (Switzerland) based Tetra Pak food packaging company into a global giant, passed away at the age of 93 in London, United Kingdom (UK).  He was the son of tetra pak founder Ruben Rausing. He was Sweden’s second richest man, with a net worth of $12 billion.

A book named “India’s Lost Frontier the Story of the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan” written by veteran civil servant Raghvendra Singh, who was the then Director General (DG) of the National Archives of India (NAI) has been released. It is published by Rupa Publications, New Delhi.i. The book presents the history of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which was earlier known as the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP).
ii. It reveals how the Congress leadership in 1947 surrendered India’s claim on the “tactically important” province though there was resistance from Mahatma Gandhi and other political leaders.

World Coconut Day 2019 observed on September 2
World Coconut Day was observed on September 2, 2019. It was established in 2009 to commemorate the formation day of Asian Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) which is under the aegis of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP). The day highlights the importance and uses of coconuts.i. In India, Coconut Development Board (CDB) celebrated the 21st Edition of World Coconut Day at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology in Odisha. The theme was “Coconut for Family Wellness”.
ii. The chief guest of the event was Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar. He has assured additional assistance for Odisha’s coconut farmers affected by cyclone Fani apart from the support of Rs 29.65 crore given by the CDB.

Justice Harish Chandra Mishra is the new Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand HC
The Central Government appointed Justice Harish Chandra Mishra as the Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court (HC) with effect from August 30, 2019. At present, he is the senior-most judge at the Jharkhand HC. He succeeded Justice Prashant Kumar who passed away on August 30, 2019.i. He received a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from the Patna Law College in 1984 and began his practice at the Patna High Court.
ii. He has served in Bihar Superior Judicial Service as an Additional District and Sessions Judge at Chapra in 1997 and was promoted as a District and Sessions Judge at Deoghar in 2002.
iii. He worked as the Registrar (Establishment) of the Jharkhand High Court (2006), District and Sessions Judge, Chaibasa (2008 -2009), Registrar General of the Jharkhand High Court (2009) and continued until his elevation to the Bench.
iv. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court in April 2011 and was made a permanent judge of the High Court in January 2013.
