Thaawarchand Gehlot E-Launches ‘National Portal for Transgender Persons’ and E-Inaugurated Garima Greh in Vadodara, Gujarat

i.On November 25, 2020, Union Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MoSJE) has e-launched a “National Portal for Transgender Persons” and e-inaugurated a “Garima Greh: A Shelter Home for Transgender Persons” in Vadodara, Gujarat.
ii.The portal has been launched on the lines of Notification of Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020 released on September, 29 2020 to provide pan India online applying facility of a Certificate and Identity card (I-Card) to transgender persons without visiting office or any physical interface.
iii.Garima Greh is launched by MoSJE and will be run in association with Lakshya Trust, a Community based organisation entirely run by the Transgenders to provide shelter to Transgender persons, with basic amenities like shelter, food, medical care and recreational facilities.

27th edition of India-Singapore Bilateral Maritime Exercise (SIMBEX-20) Held in Andaman Sea

i.Indian Navy (IN) hosted the 27th edition of India – Singapore Bilateral Maritime Exercise SIMBEX-20 from 23 to 25 November 2020 in Andaman Sea in a “non-contact, at sea only” format amid COVID-19. It is an annual exercise between IN and Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).
ii.The Indian Navy was represented by INS (Indian Naval Ship) Rana with its integral Chetak helicopter in addition to INS Kamorta, INS Karmuk, Submarine INS Sindhuraj and P8I maritime reconnaissance aircraft.
iii.The RSN was represented by Formidable-class stealth frigates RSS Intrepid and RSS Steadfast along with integral S70B helicopter as well as Endurance-class landing platform dock ship RSS Endeavour.

i.On November 25, 2020, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi chaired the 33rd PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance And Timely Implementation) meeting which reviewed the multiple projects, grievances and programmes in the presence of concerned Secretaries of the Union Government and Chief Secretaries of the State Governments.
ii.The projects that reviewed were of the Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Ministry of Power.
iii.These projects worth Rs 1.41 lakh crore, were related to 10 states and union territories (UTs).

ii.It was released by NITI Aayog Member Dr Vinod K Paul, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitabh Kant and Additional Secretary Dr Rakesh Sarwal.
iii.The report contains information about various initiatives implemented by states, districts, and cities in India for containing and managing the Covid-19 outbreak.

Ministry of Environment Approves Rs. 1100 crore for Song Dam drinking water project

On 26th November, The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has announced a Fund allocation of Rs. 1100 crore towards the construction of Song Dam drinking water project in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. This project is aimed at providing 24 hours drinking water to the city of Dehradun and will help the revival of River Rispana a tributary of River Song. The dam is about 148 m high and has the capability to generate power up to 6 MW.

i.Song is one of the largest rivers that drain the Doon Valley traversing 190 km (120 mi).
ii.It is a tributary of Sooswa river, which in turn is a tributary of the Ganges, it originates as spring-fed stream in the southern slopes of the Radi Top of Mussoorie ridge of the Himalayan range and runs from Dhanaulti towards Narendranagar.

MoES to Launch Deep Ocean Mission in 3-4 months for Underwater Exploration in Indian Ocean

i.The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) is all set to launch an ambitious ‘Deep Ocean Mission’ in the next 3-4 months that envisages underwater exploration of minerals, energy and marine diversity and also enhance India’s presence in the Indian Ocean. Its expected outlay is over Rs 4,000 crore.
ii.The information regarding the mission was provided by MoES secretary, Dr. Madhavan Nair Rajeevan.
iii.The stakeholders in this multi-disciplinary work will be Defence Research and Development Organisation, Department of Biotechnology, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
iv.Notably, India has been ear-marked nearly 1.5 lakh square kilometres of area in the central Indian Ocean for exploration.

Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar Launched Nafed’s Honey FPO Programs In 5 States

i.On 26th November 2020, Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare virtually inaugurated the Honey Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO) Programs of National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) under the “Formation & Promotion of 10,000 FPOs” Scheme in 5 states.
ii.The areas covered under the Honey FPO programme are, Sundarbans in West Bengal, East Champaran in Bihar, Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, Morena in Madhya Pradesh and Bharatpur in Rajasthan.
iii.The NAFED,one of the Implementing Agencies(IAs) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, will support the establishment of the Honey FPO programme in the five states.

Israel Committed its Partnership with India for future with Low Carbon, Pollution Levels

A digital conference of the India-led International Solar Alliance (ISA) was held on November 27, 2020 where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has committed his partnership with India for lowering carbon and pollution levels in future.

  • He expressed his confidence that in Israel solar energy would constitute over 25% of energy supply by 2030.

–The ISA was jointly launched by Modi and then French President Francois Hollande at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris in November 2015. It seeks to harness the power of the sun to reduce pollution and carbon footprint by rapid deployment of solar energy units.

A Malayalam film “Jallikattu” directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, has been selected as India’s official entry for the International Feature Film category at the 93rd Academy Awards or 2021 Oscars. It was unanimously chosen from 27 entries across Hindi, Marathi and other languages by the 14-member jury headed by Rahul Rawail, Chairman, Jury Board, Film Federation of India (FFI).

  • The film about a tribe of men coming together to stop a bull that has run amok in their village is based on a short story by Hareesh.
  • The film name is derived from the popular-yet-controversial bull-taming event from the South.

On 26th November 2020, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré (63 years old) of People’s Movement for Progress(MPP) party, won the 2nd term as the President of Burkina Faso by winning the 2020 presidential elections. He won the election with around 58% of the vote which is 1.6 million votes of 3 million cast, with turnout at 50%.
He will serve another 5 years as the President of Burkina Faso.

Faqir Chand Kohli, ‘Father of Indian IT industry’ & founder of TCS dies at the age of 96

On November 26, 2020, the founder and 1st CEO of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Faqir Chand Kohli, who is also known as the ‘Father of Indian Information Technology (IT) industries’ passed away at the age of 96 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.He was born on March 1924 Peshawar, British India.(Presently Peshawar is presently located in Pakistan).
Career:
i.Mr. Kohli joined Tata Electric company in 1951, later Founded TCS alongside J.R.D Tata and become the Director of the company in 1970.
ii.He served as the chairman of National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) 1994-95 & he served as the President of NASSCOM during 1995-96.
iii.He was known for transforming the IT industry of the country, for pioneering the Technology revolution in the country to build a $100 billion IT industry in India. As the CEO of TCS he brought IBM to India as part of Tata-IBM deal in 1991 for hardware manufacturing.

National Milk Day 2020 – November 26

i.National Milk Day is annually celebrated across India on 26th November to celebrate the importance of milk in the life of humans. The day honours the birth anniversary of Padma awardee Dr Verghese Kurien, who is known as the Milkman of India and Father of India’s White Revolution.
ii.The National Milk Day 2020 marks the 99th Birth Anniversary of Dr Verghese Kurien.
iii.As a part of the National Milk Day, NDDB awarded certificates and awards to 86 milk producers, 19 dairy cooperatives and 8 milk producer companies across 22 states for their efforts towards increasing the digital bill payments.

71st Constitution Day or Samvidhan Divas observed on November 26, 2020: An Overview

i.The Constitution day or Samvidhan Divas is observed annually on November 26 since 2015 to mark the adoption of the Indian Constitution by the Constituent Assembly on this day in 1949. The Constitution then came into force on January 26, 1950. The year 2020 marked the 71st Constitution Day.  
ii.Notably, Government of India (GoI) decided yearlong celebration for this day where the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJ&E) was administered as the nodal ministry for the same. As a part of this, the ministry had organized many programs throughout the year, one of which was producing a documentary on the Constitution titled “Illustrations and Calligraphy in the Constitution of India”. It was e-released by Union Minister Dr Thawar Chand Gehlot, MoSJ&E on November 26, 2020 in New Delhi.

  • Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the 80th AIPOC 2020 at Kevadia, Gujarat on the theme “Harmonious Coordination between Legislature, Executive and Judiciary- Key to a Vibrant Democracy”.

  • iOS version of the Nyaya Bandhu App and its onboarding on UMANG platform to be launched on Constitution Day

Rajasthan Signed LoU with UN World Food Programme to Achieve Food & Nutritional Security Goals

i.On 24th November 2020, The United Nations (UN)’s World Food Programme(WFP) signed a Letter of Understanding (LoU) with the Government of Rajasthan for the proposed participation to achieve food and nutritional security goals.
ii.The WFP signed the LoU with the Department of Women and Child Development, School Education, Rural Development and Tribal Regional Development departments to achieve the targets of food and nutritional security by taking required support from these departments.

Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan have been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize 2021 for their contribution in establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries. Signing of Peace Agreement between UAE, Israel and Bahrain was also reason behind their nomination.
