Navies of India, Thailand begin 32nd Edition of CORPAT
- Indian Naval Ship (INS) Karmuk, an indigenously built Missile Corvette, His Majesty’s Thailand Ship (HTMS) Tayanchon, a Khamrosin Class Anti-submarine Patrol Craft, and Maritime Patrol Aircraft from both navies are participating in the CORPAT.
Key Points:
i.The navies of both the countries have been undertaking CORPATs bi-annually since 2005 along their International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
ii.CORPAT would develop understanding and interoperability between navies and facilitate measures to prevent and reduce unlawful activities such as Illegal Unreported Unregulated (IUU) fishing, drug trafficking, maritime terrorism, armed robbery, and piracy.
iii.As part of the Government of India’s vision of SAGAR (Security And Growth for All in the Region), the Indian Navy has been engaging with the countries in the Indian Ocean Region towards enhancing regional maritime security through bilateral and multilateral exercises, CORPATs, Joint EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) Surveillance, and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations.
iv.The 32nd Indo-Thai CORPAT will contribute towards the Indian Navy’s efforts to combine inter-operability and forge strong bonds of friendship between India and Thailand.

Ministry of Tourism Signs MoU with IRCTC to Strengthen Hospitality sector
The Ministry of Tourism signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to strengthen the hospitality and tourism industry.
Objective – To provide visibility to accommodation units self-certified under System for Assessment, Awareness & Training for the Hospitality Industry (SAATHI) on the Online Travel Aggregator (OTA) platform.
- The MoU was signed during an event organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Quality Council of India (QCI).
Signatories – Deputy Director General (Hotels & Restaurants), Ministry of Tourism & JGM, Tourism, IRCTC in the presence of Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism.
Key highlights
i.An extensive coverage on accommodation units will be provided under SAATHI for safe and sustainable tourism.
ii.Both organisations will encourage accommodation units to get registered to the National Integrated Database of Hospitality Industry (NIDHI) and SAATHI.
Note – Ministry of Tourism has already signed similar MOUs with Easy My Trip, Cleartrip, Yatra.com, Make My Trip and Goibibo.

NTPC Ties up with IOCL to Collaborate in Renewable Energy
- This is a first-of-its-kind novel initiative by two leading national energy majors of India, to support the country’s commitment to achieving renewable energy targets and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Signatories:
The MoU was signed by Sangeeta Kaushik, Chief General Manager (BD) NTPC, and VK Raizada, Executive Director (M&I) Indian Oil in the presence of Gurdeep Singh, CMD (Chairman & Managing Director) NTPC; Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, Chairman, Indian Oil; and other officials of the companies .
Key Points:
i.NTPC is taking various steps to make non-fossil fuel-based capacity at par or greater than its thermal portfolio by 2032.
- It is India’s largest integrated energy company with installed capacity of 67,657.5 MW comprising 47 NTPC stations.
ii.Through this MoU, both entities will utilize their strengths to achieve net-zero commitments of nation.
iii.Both organizations will generate and store RE or other forms of energy, including gas-based power, primarily to cater for Indian Oil refineries or other installations.

- Nepal Army chief Gen Prabhu Ram Sharma was on a 4-day visit on an official invitation extended by General Naravane, Chief of the Army Staff of Indian Army to India to improve the defence ties between both nations.
- Chief General Sharma had meetings with defence secretary Ajay Kumar, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, Army chief Naravane and Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhary.
- Nepal relies on India for the transportation of goods and services. Nepal’s access to the sea is through India, and it imports a major proportion of its requirements from and through India.

- The Joint research activities should be aimed to reach the common people of India and pave the pathway for the upliftment of society.

i.The collaborations will benefit the oil and gas industries since this will lead to the development of indigenous technologies.

UNEP & European Commission Launched IMEO to Curb Methane Gas Emission
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with support from the European Commission launched the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) at the Group of Twenty (G20) Summit 2021.
- IMEO is a data-driven, action-focused initiative to catalyse dramatic reduction of methane emissions, starting with the energy sector.
- IMEO is hosted by UNEP & is budgeted at EUR 100 million over five years.
- Its aim is to slash methane emissions by 30 per cent by 2030.

HDFC Bank integrates with E-NAM to Facilitate Agri Commodity Trading
On 12th November 2021, HDFC Bank integrated with the Central Government’s National Agriculture Market (eNAM) to enable digital collections and settlement of funds to various agricultural transactions carried out through eNAM by farmers, traders, Farmer Producer Organisation (FPOs).
- HDFC Bank has partnered with Small Farmers Agri-Business Consortium (SFAC) to further improve the ease of doing business on e-NAM platform by offering the Multi-Netbanking, Debit card, NEFT/RTGS and UPI/IMPS collection modes.
Features:
i.The bank provides details of around 50 % of branches in Semi-Urban and Rural areas to support trading activities of farmers and traders on the eNAM platform.
ii.The integration helps farmers, traders, Farmer Producer Organisation (FPOs), commission agents, institutional buyers and other Mandi level service providers for easy settlement mechanisms.
Note – In 2001, HDFC Bank became the first agency bank to digitize tax collections for the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

RBI Issued Directions on Laxmi Cooperative Bank with Withdrawal Cap of Rs 1000
On November 12, 2021, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued certain Directions to The Laxmi Cooperative Bank Limited, Solapur, Maharashtra, and capped the withdrawal for customers at Rs 1,000.
- RBI issued the directions in the exercise of powers vested in it under subsection (1) of Section 35 A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949
Key Points:
i.The bank was not allowed to write, grant or renew any loans and advances, make any investment, incur any liability including borrowal of funds and acceptance of fresh deposits without prior approval of RBI.
ii.Withdrawal was not allowed for a sum exceeding Rs 1,000 from the total balance across all savings bank or current accounts or any other account of a depositor but they are allowed to set off loans against deposits (with certain directions).
iii.Without RBI’s approval the bank also couldn’t disburse or agree to disburse any payment whether in the discharge of its liabilities and obligations or otherwise, enter into any compromise or arrangement and sell, transfer or otherwise dispose of any of its properties or assets.
iv.The bank was allowed to continue its banking business with restrictions till its financial position improves.
v.The restrictions under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 will remain in force for the bank for 6 months from the close of business on November 12, 2021.

NSO Projected CPI Based Inflation Rate for October 2021 at 4.48%; RBI Projected CPI Inflation for FY22 at 5.3%
- As per the release, India’s retail inflation rate, measured by the CPI increased in October 2021 to 4.48 percent year-on-year from 4.35 percent in September 2021 due to a rise in food prices.
- Note – In October 2021, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has projected the CPI inflation for the financial year 2022 at 5.3 percent.

Inflation rate in October 2021:
i.The inflation rate for Consumer Food Price Index increased to 0.85 percent in October from 0.68 percent in September 2021.
- Food inflation contributed nearly 48 percent to the monthly increase in headline retail inflation.
ii.The inflation rate for Oils and Fats was recorded at 33.5 percent from 34.2 percent in September 2021 and pulses recorded 5.42 percent of inflation rate against 8.8 percent in September 2021.
iii.The inflation rate of Clothing and footwear was about 7.53 percent and the rate for Fuel and light was about 14.3 percent.Click here to read more about the rates.

EX CBDT Chairman PC Mody appointed as Secretary General of Rajya Sabha
On 12th November, PC Mody, the former chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), was appointed as the new Secretary General of Upper House (Rajya Sabha) for a 1-year term. He will succeed PPK Ramacharyulu, who was appointed just weeks before on 1st September 2021.
- The Chairman of Rajya Sabha , M Venkaiah Naidu, who is the appointing authority made the appointment of PC Mody.
- PPK Ramacharyulu has now been appointed as an Advisor in the Rajya Sabha Secretariat for 1-year term.
- PC Mody is the 1st Indian Revenue Services (IRS) officer to hold the post of Secretary General of Rajya Sabha, which is normally held by a Senior IAS Officer.

i.The secretary general heads the secretariat of the House and is the key lieutenant to the chair for running the affairs.

- He has secured 163 votes out of 192 members present and voting. He has topped in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Asia-Pacific group.
- He was one of the 8 members selected by UNGA from the Asia-Pacific region.

He also felicitated the Tele-Law 124 Frontline Functionaries including para legal workers and village level entrepreneurs.
- A special mobile van with the message ‘Tele-Law on Wheels’ of the campaign was also flagged off, to empower people seeking legal advice.

India to Host 1st World Yogasana Championship in June 2022
- Over 500 competitors are taking part in the National Yogasana Championships.
- Notably this is the 2nd National Yogasana Sports Championship. The 1st was held virtually in 2020.

i.It should be noted that NYSF is recognized by the Ministry of Sports making it eligible for financial assistance to conduct national championships in all categories.

ii.Yogasana sport for both male and female categories has been included in the Khelo India Youth Games, 2021.
Introduction of World’s first comprehensive rulebook for Yogasana Sports
During the Championship, the world’s first comprehensive rulebook for Yogasana Sports was also introduced which is a stepping stone for India to eye a spot as future Olympics Sports.
USA’s Erik Kynard to get 2012 High Jump Gold Medal after Russian Doping allegation
On 12th November 2021, Erik Kynard (USA) got his gold medal from the 2012 London Olympics after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) reallocated the results of five events including Men’s and Women’s High jump due to Russia’s state sponsored doping event.
i.Erik Kynard with a jump of 2.33 meters received the Silver medal in the 2012 London games, behind Ivan Ukhov (Russia) with a height of 2.38 metres.
- Ivan Ukhov was banned for four years in 2019 at the Court of Arbitration for Sport after being proven to be a part of Russia’s State sponsored doping event.
Other Reallocated Medals:
i.After Kynard was upgraded to Gold medal, the 3 bronze medalists in 2012 Derek Drouin of Canada, Robbie Grabarz of Britain and Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar were given silver.

iii.In Women’s High Jump, after the Russian athlete Svetlana Shkolina’s disqualification for doping, Spain’s Ruth Beitia was reallocated with a bronze medal.

Alexander “Sascha” Zverev (Alexander Zverev), a German professional tennis player, won the fifth ATP title of the season(2021) and 18th overall at the Vienna Open 2021 or Erste Bank Open 2021 defeating Frances Tiafoe of United States of America(USA).

Objective – To provide free medical checkups to eligible citizens at the Primary & Community Health Centers, and diagnose for Non-Communicable diseases.
- Gujarat Cabinet is also set to launch ‘Atmanirbhar Gram Yatra’, a programme under which Rs 500 crore worth development works will be conducted in rural districts of Gujarat.
About Niramay Gujarat Yojana:
i.Citizens over 30 years can undergo free health checkups for detecting Non-communicable diseases like Diabetes, Anemia, Cancer, Heart diseases, Blood pressure, etc.
ii.Free diagnosis will be conducted at primary & community health centers on every Friday, called as ‘Mamta Divas’, and patients will be issued with Niramay Cards with their health details.
Note – In June 2021, Gujarat govt. e-launched the Agricultural Diversification Scheme-2021 to benefit more than 1.26 lakh Tribal-farmers.
