China defeats Indonesia to win BWF Thomas and Uber Cup 2024 Finals

Thomas & Uber Cup 2024 China secure both men's and women's crownsThe People’s Republic of China’s men’s team won the 33rd edition of Badminton World Federation (BWF) Thomas Cup 2024 after defeating Indonesia men team 3-1. It is China’s 11th Thomas cup title. The BWF 2024 Championship was held in Chengdu, China from 29th April to 5th May 2024.

  • This was the first time since 2012 that China had won both the men’s and women’s titles at the world team championships.

Key Highlights :

i.In the first Men’s Singles, world number two Shi Yuqi of China defeated Indonesia Anthony Ginting.

ii.In the first Men’s Doubles, the Chinese pair Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang defeated Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

iii.In the second Men’s Singles, world number three Jonatan Christie (Indonesia) defeated sixth-ranked Li Shifeng of China.

iv.In the second Men’s Doubles, He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu (China) won the doubles after beating Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana (Indonesia) claiming the winner’s title.

2024 Uber Cup:

China’s women’s team has clinched the 30th edition of Badminton World Federation (BWF) Uber Cup 2024 after defeating Indonesia by 3-0. The championship was held in Chengdu, China from 29th April to 5th May 2024.

  • This is China’s 16th Uber Cup title. The next most successful women’s nation is Japan, which has won the Uber Cup six times.

Key Highlights:

i.In the women’s singles, Chen Yufei (China) defeated Gregoria Mariska Tunjung (Indonesia).

ii.In the women’s doubles, World No.1 Chen Qing chen and Jia Yifan (China)gave a 2-0 lead with a win over Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and Ribka Sugiarto.

iii.In the second women’s singles, He Bing jiao (China) defeated Indonesian teenager Ester Nurumi Tri Waedoyo by.

i.The 2024 Thomas & Uber Cup (officially known as the TotalEnergies BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2024 for sponsorship reasons) was the 33rd edition of the Thomas Cup and the 30th edition of the Uber Cup.

ii.It is the biennial international badminton championship contested by the men and women’s national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF).

iii.India was the defending champions for the men’s team, but lost to China in the quarter-finals. South Korea were the defending champions for the women’s team, but lost to Indonesia in the semi-finals.

iv.The BWF Men’s & Women’s World Team Championships 2026 (Thomas Cup & Uber Cup) will be hosted by Horsens, Denmark.
