Note- UN(United Nation) celebrates World Children’s Day annually on November 20.
Children’s Day in India
On the occasion of the day, various events, competitions and cultural programmes are held across the country in schools, colleges and other educational institutions.
About Jawaharlal Nehru:
i.Jawaharlal Nehru(14 November 1889 – 27 May 1964) served as the first Prime Minister from 1947 to 1964.
ii.He was also known as Pandit Nehru due to his roots with the Kashmiri Pandit community.
iii.During his tenure various educational institutions such as Indian Institutes of Technology(IIT), All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS) and Indian Institutes of Management(IIM) were established.
iv.He launched initiatives such as the provision of free milk and meals to children to fight malnutrition.
v.He received Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour in 1955.
