ii.The top 2 finishers of the tournament (Jan-Krzysztof Duda & Sergey Karjakin), aside from World Champion Magnus Carlsen have qualified for the 2022 Candidates Tournament.
iii.The winner Jan-Krzysztof Duda will take home USD 88,000 while Sergey Karjakin won USD 64,000. The Chess World Cup 2021 was a 206-player Single-elimination chess tournament.
iv.The Indian challenge at the FIDE World Cup 2021 ended as Vidit Santosh Gujrathi lost to Jan-Kryzstof Duda in the second game of the Men’s quarterfinals.
Inaugural Edition of Women’s Only Chess World Cup 2021
Alongside FIDE World Cup 2021, The Inaugural edition of a women’s only version of the Women’s World Cup 2021 took place in Sochi, Russia from 12th July – 3rd August, 2021.
- Alexandra Kosteniuk (Russia) defeated Aleksandra Goryachkina (Russia) to win the Inaugural edition of the Women’s World Cup.
- The winner & runner-up along with World Champion Ju Wenjun (China) have qualified for the Women’s Candidates Tournament 2022.
