Censor Board Chief Leela Samson quits

The Censor Board chief Leela Samson has resigned from her post citing interference and corruption in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. She resigned after the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) cleared the controversial film Messenger of God, a movie about Dera Saccha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Leela Samson had denied the clearance certificate to the film earlier.

The Censor Board in India is Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It is a statutory body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The Headquarters of CBFC is Mumbai

Leela Samson was the 26th Chair Person of the Board. 

CBFC issues Certificates such as,

  • U – Universal (Movie for all age groups)
  • UA  – Parental Guidance (Movie for all age groups; Parents should accompany Children under 12)
  • A – Adults Only (Strictly for above 18 years of age)
  • S – For Special class of Persons
