Ayushman Bharat Diwas 2020: April 30

As part of Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, Ayushman Bharat Diwas is celebrated across the country every year on 30th April, to mark the start of Ayushman Bharat(AB) Yojana, which is also referred as AB-National Health Protection Scheme(AB-NHPM) or ModiCare or AB-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana(AB-PMJAY) by  Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi on April 30,2018.Ayushman Bharat Diwas 2020Aim of the Day– To promote affordable medical facilities in remote areas of the country based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census database, health and wellness & provide insurance benefits to the poor.

Significance of the day

Gram sabhas are organized in various parts of the country to create awareness about the National Health Protection Mission on Ayushman Bharat Day & to verify and update the social, economic and caste census database.

Ayushman Bharat

It is a flagship scheme of the Government of India, was launched on the recommendation of the National Health Policy 2017, to achieve the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) & is designed to meet Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its underlying commitment, which is to “leave no one behind.”

AB-PMJAY

i.On 21 March 2018, the central government approved the launch of the AB- NHPM and  was started from 30 April 2018. The scheme was launched by the PM on 14 April 2018, in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh.

ii.Later it was transformed into the Ayushman Bharat Scheme & launched on 23rd September, 2018 in Ranchi, Jharkhand by PM. National Health Authority(NHA) is the apex body responsible for implementation

iii.It provides a cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization across public and private empanelled hospitals in India & provides cashless access to health care services for the beneficiaries

iv.It covers 50 crore beneficiaries in India and it covers secondary and tertiary healthcare.

v.It is also linked to the Kalyan Kendra scheme which covers the services offered in the Health and Wellness Center, like Pregnancy Care and Health Services, Newborn and child health services, Child Health Infectious Disease, Emergency medicine for mental illness etc.,

vi.It has benefitted 10 crore families in India, of which 8 crore families in rural areas and 2.33 crore families from urban areas

About NHA:
It was established on 2nd January 2019 by reconstituting The National Health Agency, a registered society, since 23rd May, 2018.
