Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2023: India Wins 42 Medals; 15 in Junior and 27 in youth Events

Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2023The Indian Weightlifting contingent won 42 medals(15 in Junior events and 27 in youth events) in the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2023 held from 28th July to 5th August 2023 in the Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

  • In the Asian Youth(Boys & Girls) and Junior (Men & Women) competition, medals were given out for the snatch, clean & jerk, and overall categories and India won 14 medals in the clean & jerk; 13 medals in the snatch;15 in the overall category.
  • The Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2023 is held in India for the first time.

Highlights:

i.The 220 athletes from 18 Asian nations participated in both Youth and junior categories of the 2023 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships.

ii.Sabar Jyoshna from Uttar Pradesh won the first medal for India for this tournament, She won 3 bronze medals in the women’s youth 40kg category(overall, snatch, clean and jerk).

iii.Siddhanta Gogoi won India’s first gold medal in this tournament in the men’s junior 61 kg category including 3 gold medals in Overall, Snatch, clean and jerk.

  • Best Lifter Youth Girls – Rustamova Anamjan from Turkmenistan with 904.4261 Points
  • Best Lifter Youth Boys – Delos Santos Prince Keil from Philippines with 844.0010 Points
  • Best Lifter Junior Women – Chen Guan- Ling from Chinese Taipei with 603.6453 Points
  • Best Lifter Junior Men – Do Tu Tung from Vietnam with 664.8068 Points
