ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East GAR Awards 2024; 3 Indian Airports Bagged ‘Silver’ Award

ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East Announces Green Airports Recognition 2024Airport Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific and Middle East announced 8th Green Airports Recognition (GAR) awards for 2024. Three Indian Airports have been awarded under Silver category. They are,

  • Indira Gandhi International Airport (New Delhi, Delhi) under ‘Over 35 million passengers per annum’ category
  • Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) (Bengaluru, Karnataka) under ‘Between 15-35 million passengers per annum’ category.
  • Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh-UP) under ‘less than 8 million passengers per annum’ category.

ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East GAR 2024:

i.The GAR 2024 have recognised 12 airports in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East region for demonstrating outstanding accomplishments in their sustainability projects.

ii.The recognised airports were awarded in 3 categories: Platinum, Silver and Gold.

iii.Theme for GAR 2024: Biodiversity and Nature-based Solutions

iv.The recognised airports were honoured at 19th ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East  Regional Assembly or ACI World Annual General Assembly Conference and Exhibition (WAGA 2024) held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

About Green Airports Recognition (GAR):

i.It aims to promote environmental best practices to minimize the aviation’s impact on the environment and recognise airport members who have outstanding accomplishments in their environmental projects.

iii.The airports are classified into 4 different categories  based on the number of passengers they handle annually: over 35 million, between 15-35 million, between 8-15 million, and less than 8 million.
