Overview of 80th Annual Golden Globe® Awards 2023: RRR’s “Naatu Naatu” wins Best Original Song Award

RRR' bags first Golden Globe with 'Naatu Naatu' winning best original songOn 11th January 2023, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association® (HFPA) announced the winners of the 80th Annual Golden Globe® Awards 2023, at an event held in The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills Los Angeles, California, United States of America (USA).

  • The Golden Globe awards have been annually presented by HFPA since 1943.
  • The 2023 award recognises excellence in film, both American and international, and American television of 2022.
  • Jerrod Carmichael hosted the 2023 award ceremony.

“Naatu Naatu” from RRR bags Best Original Song Award:

“Naatu Naatu” Song from SS Rajamouli’s Telugu film “RRR” won the Best Original Song- Motion Picture. The award was shared among M M Keeravani, composer of the track, and Chandrabose, lyricist of the song. 

  • ‘Naatu Naatu’ became the first Asian song to win a Golden Globes award.
  • Keeravani received the trophy during the award ceremony.
  • The fictional Telugu movie “RRR” starring Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran was also nominated for ‘best picture-non English’. 

Nomination of 80th Golden Globe Awards: 

The nominations of the 80th Golden Globe Awards were announced by Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva of the new NBC comedy series Lopez vs. Lopez, and Helen Hoehne, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

  • They presented the nominees for the 27 award categories.

Highlights:

i.Previous Golden Globe Award winner and six-time nominee Eddie Murphy was the recipient of the 2023 Cecil B. deMille Award and five-time Golden Globe Award winner and sixteen-time nominee Ryan Murphy received the Carol Burnett Award.

ii.The Fabelmans won Best Motion Picture – Drama and The Banshees of Inisherin won Best Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy.

iii.Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once) won Best Actor and Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical.

iv.Austin Butler (Elvis) and Cate Blanchett (Tar) won Best Actor and Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.
