75th Annual Golden Globe Awards – Overview

75th Golden Globe Awards ceremony was held in California, US on January 7, 2018. The ceremony was hosted by talk show host Seth Meyers. These awards honoured excellence in film and American Television for the calendar year 2017.

Ansari, first man of Asian descent to win Globe for Best Actor

Indian-origin actor, comedian, and filmmaker Aziz Ansari became the first man of Asian descent to win Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an actor.

  • Aziz Ansari has been awarded for his role as Dev Shah in Television series (Musical-Comedy) ‘Master of None’.
  • Ansari was nominated for this category along with Anthony Anderson for “Black-ish”, Kevin Bacon for “I Love Dick”, William H Macy for “Shameless” and Eric McCormack for ‘Will & Grace’.

Sterling K. Brown becomes first African – American to win Golden Globe

At 75th Golden Globe Awards, Actor Sterling K. Brown won the Best Actor in a TV Series, Drama category for his performance as Randall Pearson in “This Is Us.”

  • Sterling K. Brown thereby created history by becoming the first African-American to win Golden Globe Award.
  • Brown was nominated for this category along with Jason Bateman for “Ozark,” Freddie Highmore for “The Good Doctor,” Bob Odenkirk for “Better Call Saul,” and Liev Schreiber for “Ray Donovan.”
  • The role of Randall Pearson in “This Is Us” already fetched him Emmy Award in 2017.
