The 27th November 2022, marks the observance of NCC’s 74th Raising Day.
- The 73rd NCC Raising Day was observed on 28th November 2021.
- The 75th NCC Raising Day will be observed on 26th November 2023.
Background:
i.The Cadet Corps Committee was formed on 29th September 1946 with Pt HN Kunzru as chairman.
- NCC was raised on 15th July 1948 in New Delhi.
- NCC Day is observed annually on the 4th Sunday in November to commemorate the day in 1947 when the first units were raised in Delhi.
Note:
- Colonel Gopal Gurunath Bewoor, who later retired as Chief of Army Staff, took over as the first Director of the NCC on 31st March 1948.
- The Director of NCC is now called the Director General(DG) of NCC.
Significance of NCC:
i.The curriculum of NCC includes multifaceted activities which provide an opportunity to the youth for self-development.
ii.NCC will also motivate the youth to join the Armed forces and contribute to nation-building.
iii.NCC also provides a platform to harness international relations by sending its cadets as ambassadors of peace and unity to more than 25 countries.
Events:
On the occasion of the 74th NCC Raising Day, Giridhar Aramane, Defence Secretary laid a wreath and paid homage to the fallen heroes on behalf of the entire NCC fraternity at National War Memorial, New Delhi, Delhi.
