2nd Anniversary of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM KISAN) 

PM KISAN completes two years24th February, 2021 is the 2nd Anniversary of the starting of the Central Sector Scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM KISAN)’. It was launched by 24th February, 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Objective of the Scheme 

To supplement the income of farmers by providing income support to all farmer families in India irrespective of the size of their landholdings.

Benefits

  • Under the Scheme, an amount of INR 6000 rupees per year will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of farmers.
  • The amount will be paid in 3 installments of INR 2000 rupees.
  • Initially, it was intended for Small & Marginal Farmer Families who held cultivable land up to 2 hectares but later it was expanded to cover all farmer families irrespective of the size of their landholdings.
  • Farmers of High Economic Status (such as All Institutional Land Holders & others) have been excluded from the scheme.
  • The scheme is expected to cover around 2 Crore farmers, increase the total coverage to around 14.5 crore beneficiaries.

Financial Outlay

The Government has allocated INR 65, 000 Crore for the scheme in the Union Budget 2021-22.

Awarded to Best Performing states:-Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh were awarded by the Agriculture Minister.

  • Karnataka has the highest number of beneficiaries authenticated under the PM-Kisan scheme, Karnataka emerged as the winner with 97 per cent authentication.
  • Maharashtra received an award for effective physical verification and prompt grievance redressal.
  • Uttar Pradesh was awarded for the fastest implementation of the PM-Kisan scheme.
  • Arunachal Pradesh: For the northeast and hilly areas Arunachal Pradesh emerged the winner for completing the highest number of Aadhar verifications.
  • Himachal Pradesh also received an award for stellar performance in physical verification of beneficiaries and grievance redressal.
