19th Meeting of Prosecutors General of SCO hosted by India’s SC Tushar Mehta

Three Day Nineteenth Meeting of Prosecutors General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States heldThe 19th meeting of Prosecutors General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states was hosted by Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India on October 29, 2021 through video conferencing mode.

  • SCO Prosecutors General sign a protocol to deal with human trafficking especially women and children.
  • The 20th meeting of the Prosecutors General of the SCO Member States will be held in the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2022.

Key points

i.The Experts group will discussed and share their experience, best practices and governing laws of the country relating to combating the trafficking of persons especially women and children.

ii.The meeting exchanges information and best practices in the field of Law

iii.Cooperation amongst the educational training institutions and anti trafficking bodies of the SCO member states.

iv.Protocol has been signed to strengthen the anti-trafficking measures and safety of the whole society.

Significance

Number of programmes & schemes have been initiated by the Government of India for addressing concerns of women affected by violence like Ujjawala, SwadharGreh Scheme, Sakhi, Universalization of Women Helpline.

Features of Protocol

-To strengthen cooperation in preventing and combating the growing menace of trafficking in persons especially, women and children.

-To continue exchanging the national legislation to combat the menace of trafficking in persons, especially women and children.

-To provide protection and assistance to victims of trafficking within their competence.

-To develop cooperation between the educational organizations of the SCO member states in the field of training and advanced training of prosecutors, whose competence include combating trafficking in persons especially, women and children.

-To conduct bilateral and multilateral activities, including through videoconferencing, on countering and combating the threat of trafficking in persons, especially women and children.

Recent Related News 

i.On 17th September 2021 , prime minister Narendra Modi virtually participated in the 21st meeting of council of heads of the state of SCO that was held for the first time through hybrid format from Dushanbe, Tajikistan. During the meeting the SCO member states adopted ‘Dushanbe Declaration’ to promote counter terrorism and stability in afganistan.
