World Thinking Day 2021 – February 22

World Thinking Day 2021-February 2222nd February of every year is observed as World Thinking Day by the girl scouts and girl guides in 150 countries across the globe. The day offers an opportunity for the girl scouting and girl guiding communities to think about others and focus on a wider issue that impacts the others within the guiding and scouting movements.

Aim:

The day aims to bring together the young people across the world to celebrate international fun and friendship and raise funds and focus on the global theme of the year.

The theme of the World Thinking Day 2021 is “Peacebuilding”.

Background:

iIn 1926, The Girl Guide and Girl Scout delegates across the globe met at the 4th World Conference held in the USA and proclaimed the 22nd February of every year as the Thinking Day, a special day for the Girl Guides and girl Scouts across the globe.

ii.The day 22nd February marks the birth anniversary of Lord Robert Baden Powell, the founder of Boy Scout Movement & the first Chief Scout and Olave Baden Powel, the World Chief Guide.

iii.In 1999 at the 30th World Conference held in Dublin, Ireland it was decided to change the name of the day from Thinking Day to World Thinking Day.

World Thinking Day Fund:

The world thinking day fund was established in 1932, which will be used to help and support the poor and needy across the globe.

Girl Guide Association:

i.The Girl Guide association was established in 1912 by Agnes Baden Powell, sister of Robert Baden Powell.

ii.At the 5th World Conference held in Hungary in 1928, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) was formed with its World Bureau as its Secretariat in London.
