William E Colby award bestowed upon “Midnight’s Furies” – A Book on India’s Partition

USD 5,000 William E Colby Award 2016 of US has been conferred upon book “Midnight’s Furies: The Deadly Legacy of India’s Partition” authored by Nisid Hajari.

  • Midnight’s Furies, Hajari’s first book, covers the 1947 partition of India that created Pakistan as a separate state, the violence surrounding the partition and why those tensions persist to this day.
  • The award and honorarium will be presented to Hajari at Norwich University during the 2016 William E. Colby Military Writer’s Symposium on April 6-7.

Based in Singapore, Nisid Hajari writes editorials on Asia. He was previously managing editor and foreign editor of Newsweek magazine as well as managing editor of Newsweek International.

  • He was also an editor and writer at Time Asia in Hong Kong.

William E Colby award is an annual prize presented by Norwich University to a first-time author in recognition of a work of fiction or non-fiction that has made a major contribution to the understanding of military history, intelligence operations or international affairs.

  • It was established in 1999.
  • It is named in honor of William Egan Colby
  • Winners of the Colby book award receive a USD 5,000 author honorarium provided through a grant from the Chicago based Tawani Foundation.
