The First Indian-Origin lawmaker from  Australia to take oath on  Bhagavad Gita 

Indo-origin Daniel Mookhey, became the  first politician in Australia  sworned  on Bhagavad Gita when he took oath in New South Wales parliament. Mr Mookhey was elected by the Labor to replace Steve Whan in the New South Wales Upper House, making him the states first politician of Indian origin.

• Mr Mookhey said he felt  honoured and humbled to become the first Austalian politician to take oath of allegiance on Gita.
• He said that it was possible because Australia is open and welcoming and further said that Gita is one of the worlds great religious text along with Bible, Quran
• He also felt proud about growing up in western Sydney and felt it was a mark of respect to the people who had helped him to this present position.
• He also hoped that his time in Upper House will be productive in nature .
• Mookhey’s parents were originally from Punjab,India and later migrated to Australia.
• Mookhey was born in Blacktown suburb and he has 3 universities degrees.
• He is presently working as consultant to unions,charities etc.
