Solutions

1)  Let us simplify the problem by quantifying the work done and work rate/efficiency.
Let the work be to transfer ‘a’ number of bricks from one place to another.
Let the time taken by X to do it be ‘t’ , hence his work rate will be ‘a/t’.
The time taken by Y to do it be will be ‘2t’ , hence his work rate will be ‘a/2t’.Since X woks twice fast as Y.
When X and Y work together the work rate will be added up, hence net work rate will be equal to (a/t ) + (a/2t). The time taken to complete the work when they work together is 16 days, ence the equation is ( (a/t) +(a/2t) ) x16 = a ; (Net work rate X time taken = Net work ).
Simplifying we get t = 16x(3/2) ;
t = 24; hence X will take 24 days.

2)  4A = 5B implies A = (5/4)B
3A = 7C implies A = (7/3)C
(5/4)B = (7/3)C
15B = 28C
C : B = 15 : 28

3)  Let the present age of Ramesh be ‘X’ and Rajesh be ‘Y’.
(X – 10) = (Y – 10) X 2 ;( Ten years ago age of Ramesh will be X- 10 and Rajesh will be Y-10)
3X = 4Y Since their present ages are in the ratio 3 : 4;
Multiplying first equation by 2 on both sides we get
2X – 20 = 4Y – 40 ; 2X – 20 = 3X – 40 ; (since 3X = 4Y)
X = 20; Implies Y = 15 ;
The difference between their ages is 5 years

4)  Observing the series we can find that (5×3)+1 =16 (next number); (16×3) + 1 = 49 ; (49×3) + 1 =148 ; (148×3)+1 = 445 ; (445×3)+1 = 1336 ; Hence 444 is the wrong number in the sequence.

5)  Since the coin is fair (equal probability to get ead and tail) and the events are independent (previous tosses does not affect the upcoming tosses) of each other the probability of head on 6 th toss is same as any other toss ie 1/2 .

6)  Number of diamond cards in a deck is 13 and number of aces in a deck is 4. The number of ways in which we can get a diamond or ace is 13+3 ; Since diamond ace is already counted in diamond cards it is excluded from counting in ace cards. The total number of ways of selecting a card is 52.
Hence the required probability is 16/52 ; 4/13.

7)  Let the number be a ; when increased by 47.6% the number becomes (147.6/100) x a ; ( a+ (47.6/100)xa )
The question becomes 147.6/100 x a = 81.18 ; On simplification we get a = 55

8)  Let the distance covered by both of them be d km; Speed x Time = Distance ;
Let time taken by Priyaa to cover distance d be t hr , then time taken by anbu to cover the same distance will be t+1/2 hr .
9 (km/hr) x (t+1/2)hr = d km (Equation for Anbu’s journey)
10 (km/hr) x t hr = d km (Equation for Priyaa’s journey)
Equating above equations we get { (9xt) + (9x(1/2)) } = (10xt) ;
9x(1/2) = t ; t= 4.5 hrs ; d = 45 km

10)  Amount of mixture in each Container is 10 ltrs.
Milk in container1 is 5lts and container 2 is 4 ltrs.
Water in container1 is 5 ltrs and container2 is 6 ltrs.
After adding water upto 5 ltrs the volume of water in each container is 10 and 11 ltrs respectively.
Hence the ratio is 10 :11.
