Sri Lankan senior players, Sangakkara and Jayawardene have announced their retirement from One Day Internationals, after Sri Lanka’s World Cup quarterfinal loss to South Africa. In a very important knock-out match, Sri Lanka scored 133 runs and lost the quarter-final match of World Cup 2015 to South Africa by nine wickets. These two players are considered as the Two Super Stars of Sri Lankan Cricket.
Jayawardene, who had already quit the Test Cricket, now bows out of the international Cricket.He started his career in 1997. He scored with 17,838 first-class runs, 11,814 runs in 149 Test matches and 12,650 runs in 448 ODIs.
Sangakkara finishes with 12,646 runs in 447 ODIs with 77 fifties and 19 hundreds. He will continue to play Tests – retiring after the India series in August. Sangakkara’s 541 runs in this tournament mark the fourth highest run total in ever in a World Cup.
Sangakkara will play in the county championship for Surrey this coming summer, while Jayawardene will also feature in England, representing Sussex in the T20.
