NITI Aayog & WRI India Launched ‘Forum for Decarbonizing Transport’ in India

NITI Aayog and World Resources Institute India Jointly Launch ‘Forum for Decarbonizing Transport’As a part of the Nationally Determined Contributions-Transport Initiative for Asia(NDC-TIA) project NITI Aayog and World Resources Institute(WRI), India has jointly launched the ‘Forum for Decarbonizing Transport’ in India. The forum will act as a channel to bring in the diverse needs to adopt an integrated approach for greening the transport sector in India.

Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog inaugurated the forum over the virtual event.

Aim:

To reduce the peak level of GHG emission (transport sector) in Asia (in line with a well below 2-degree pathway).

Features of Forum:

i.Through this forum WRI India, NITI Aayog and other project partners will work with the stakeholders to formulate strategies and develop appropriate business models to accelerate electric mobility in India.

ii.The forum will also provide a platform to discuss the development of uniform policies and help achieve specific results in reducing emissions from the transport sector.

iii.This forum will unite the CEOs, researchers, academics, multilateral agencies, financial institutions as well as the Central and state government on a common platform.

iv.This will also support the development of innovative business models resulting in targeted results and the holistic growth of the electric mobility space in India.

About NDC TIA:

i.NDC Transport Initiative for Asia(NDC-TIA), a part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) is a joint programme of 7 organisations that engages China, India and Vietnam over the period 2020-2024.

ii.The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) support the initiative on the basis of a decision adopted by the German Bundestag.

Aim:

To promote a coherent strategy of effective policies for decarbonizing transport coordinated among various sector ministries, civil society and private sector.

Note:

NITI Aaygog is the implementing partner for the India component of the NDC-TIA project.
