Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ arrived in New Delhi for a three-day state visit to India and External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj received him at the airport on September 15, 2016
About Prachanda :
Pushpa Kamal Dahal also known as Prachanda, is a Nepalese politician and the chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist-Centre). He has been Prime Minister of Nepal since 2016; previously he was Prime Minister from 2008 to 2009.
- Dahal led the CPN (M) as it launched a communist insurgency on 13 February 1996. In the ensuingcivil war, more than 17,000 Nepalese died. Ultimately elections were held in 2008 and the CPN (M) emerged as the strongest party.
- TheConstituent Assembly of Nepal elected Dahal as Prime Minister in August 2008.
- He resigned as Prime Minister on 4 May 2009 after his attempt to sack the army chief, General Rookmangud Katawal, was opposed by President Ram Baran Yadav.
- In August 2016 Pushpa Kamal Dahal was elected for a second time as Prime Minister of Nepal.
- Prachanda became the 24th prime minister since Nepal’s adoption of multi-party democracy in 1990 and the eighth since the abolition of the monarchyin 2008.
Prime Minister Prachanda was welcomed at the Forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan by Mr. Modi and the two held wide-ranging discussions. The major agreements sealed between the Indian and Nepali delegations included upgrade of road network in Nepal and two line of credit agreements between Nepal and the Exim Bank.

India and Nepal signed three agreements including improvement of road network to cement ties between the two neighbors.
- The two countries signed MoU for project management consultancy services for up gradation and improvement of road infrastructure in Terai area of Nepal.
- India also gave 750 million dollar line of credit for post earthquake reconstruction of the Himalayan nation.
- India-Nepal relationship got a major boost with the very first visit of Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda to New Delhi.
- Both the countries signed agreements to push for speedy and successful implementation of ongoing hydropower projects and development and operationalization of transmission lines.

Nepal PM visited Jhakri town to inspect Nathpa-Jhakri hydro-power project
Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda is visited Jhakri town in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh to inspect Asia’s biggest underground Nathpa-Jhakri hydro-power projecT
- The project has a power generation capacity of 1500 megawatt.
- The Nathpa Jhakri Dam is a concrete gravity dam on the Satluj River in Himachal Pradesh, India. The primary purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power production and it supplies a 1,500 megawatts underground power station with water.
- Before reaching the power station, water is diverted through a 27.4 km (17 mi) headrace tunnel. Construction on the project began in 1993 and it was complete in 2004. The last two of the 250 megawatts Francis turbine-generators went online in March 2004. It is owned by SJVN Ltd.
