The theme of 2020 Doctors Day is “Lessen the Mortality of COVID-19” which includes awareness about asymptomatic hypoxia and early aggressive therapy.
Background:
i.India marks July 1st as the National Doctors Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the former Chief Minister of West Bengal Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the pioneer of the medical practice in India and to recognise his contribution to the health care sector who was honoured with the Bharat Ratna in 1961.
ii.The state government of West Bengal declared July 1st as a state holiday and proposed the National holiday to the central government.
2020 Events:
i.The headquarters of IMA encourages the local and state branches to conduct virtual meetings and deploy the services of the members of IMA in the emergency situation due to pandemic.
ii.The State branches of IMA are directed to identify the doctors of modern medicine and award them for their performance during the Covid-19 pandemic.
About Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy:
i.Dr.Bidhan Chandra Roy was born on July 1, 1882 in Patna Bengal Presidency, British India.
ii.He joined Indian politics in 1925 and became the second chief minister of West Bengal and served as the CM from 1948 – 1962.
iii.He passed away at the age of 80 on July 1, 1962.
