Narendra Modi Received CERAWeek Global Energy and Environment Leadership Award at CERAWeek Conference 2021

CERAWeek Global Energy and Environment Leadership AwardThe 39th edition of annual CERAWeek Conference 2021 was held virtually for the first time from March 1-5, 2021 where Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi was conferred with CERAWeek Global Energy and Environment Leadership Award. CERA stands for Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA).

PM Modi Addressed the Conference

Narendra Modi addressed the CERAWeek Conference where he highlighted the following points:

i.Target: India has set a target to boost the share of gas in its fuel mix to 15% from the current 6% by 2030.

ii.Major challenges: Climate change and calamities are major challenges which can be overcome by two ways viz. policies, laws, rules and orders; and behavioural change.

iii.India’s forest cover and population of lions, tigers, leopards and waterfowls has been increased over the last seven years.

iv.United States(US) is a major supplier of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) to India.

Instituted in 2016, the award recognizes the commitment of leadership on the future of global energy & environment and for offering solutions and policies for energy access, affordability & environmental stewardship.

About CERAWeek Conference 2021:

Organized by IHS Markit, the sessions and themes of the conference were inspired by the new book titled ‘The New Map: Energy, Climate and the Clash of Nations’. The book is written by IHS Markit Vice Chairman and CERAWeek Chairman Daniel Yergin.

  • It was organized after two years as the 2020 conference was cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic.
  • It should be noted that the Saudi Arabian Oil Company Saudi Aramco aims to create a world-scale hydrogen business by 2030.
