MoU Signed Between Indian Oil, NTPC Ltd, and SDMC for Waste to Energy Plant in Delhi

MoU signed between Indianoil, NTPC Ltd, and SDMCOn 30th June, A MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) was signed between the Indian Oil, NTPC Ltd and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on setting up a waste to energy plant at Okhla in Delhi.

MoU:-

  • Indian Oil, SDMC and NTPC came together to develop a Waste-to-energy Plant demonstration using Gasification technology at Okhla landfill in Delhi. 
  • The plant has the capacity to process 17500 tons of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) per annum from municipal solid waste to produce Syngas which is used to generate electricity.

Benefits from Plant:-

  • The plant will result in less emission and provide usable residues.
  • Rs 2.6 crore can be saved by purchase of power from the plant.
  • It provides a clean eco-friendly way to handle solid waste, and generate gas, electricity and manure.

Note:-

  • The project has a potential to make out a greener and energy efficient future towards the Atma Nirbhar Bharat.
  • The gas generated from waste helps in cutting imports of petroleum products and saves precious foreign exchange.
  • The solid municipal wastes are more in Tier II and III cities causing a large health hazard throughout the country.

Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas: Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Shri RK Singh: Minister of State (I/c) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, and Shri Anil Baijal: Lt. Governor of Delhi was present through video conferencing.
