A mobile app called “m-Indicator” was launched by the Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu for the safety of women passengers who are using Mumbai’s suburban trains. With the help of this app, the passengers can avail immediate help from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) while traveling.
The mobile app contains three features.
- Availing immediate help from the RPF.
- Automatic location SMS that will be sent after two consecutive missed calls between 9 pm and 8 am from registered relative’s mobile number and
- A manual emergency SMS service , stating location of the user.
The SMS contains the passenger’s approximate location, compartment and train information. This will help the Protection Force to track the victim’s location even in a moving train and provide help at the next station.
