The Maharashtra Government has decided to provide training to over 50,000 employees as part of its Key Result Area (KRA) programme to enhance their performance and bring them on par in competence with the so called corporate sector.
In the first phase, the government targets to train 55,000 employees out of total 11 lakh across the entire state. According to Ajit Deshmukh, in-charge of the training programme, it is mandatory for Mantralaya staff, employee of all state departments, including Zilla Parishad, Collectorate and Tehsil office, to undertake this programme.
Background:
In near future, there is a possibility that the government don’t fill up vacant posts in government offices. Instead, it will be expected that everyone should have the ability of multi-tasking. Whether the employee is a clerk or an officer, he will be expected to do more work using modern technology like they do in the corporate sector.
The decision to train employees was taken in 2011 during Prithviraj Chavan’s regime. The Devendra Fadnavis Government has started its implementation now.
Highlights of the Programme:
- The government is focusing on training bureaucrats, including fresh Class-I officers and those reaching the age of 50.
- Class I and II officers will be given training at YASHADA in Pune in a month-long residential training under which they will be given training in planning, coordination, implementation and development.
- Training in public administration, management skills, works related to budget and finance, using of human resource, various laws and developing skills in computer and information technology will also be provided.
- Experts have set a syllabus to train employees in a manner that will change their views and motivate them to perform better.
- An examination will take place after every year over the syllabus to assess the performance of the trained employee. If someone’s result is poor, he/she will be once again sent for training.
- The State Government has allocated 1,000 each for their training expenditure.
