India’s ace mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu found dead

India’s Ace mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu has been found dead in Andes Mountain of South America. He was missing since March 24. Babu was regarded as the fastest “7 summiteer” in the world. He climbed summits in all seven continents. In 2006, he scaled 7 summits in the world in 172 days. He is also the first Indian to summit Mt Vinson Massif, the tallest peak in Antarctica and the first person from Andhra Pradesh to scale the Everest.

He was an alumnus of IIT-Kharagpur and IIM-Calcutta. He was working as a software engineer for 3 years and then he started mountain climbing.

The reports states that Babu and his group were at the base camp on March 24. He apparently set off alone to check out the route up and the weather got deteriorated. He has been missing since then.

  • Malli Mastan Babu was born on 3rd September 1974 at Gandhi JanaSangam village of Sangam mandal in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh. 
  • Babu was conferred with the Distinguished Alumnus Award presented by IIMC in November 2011.
  • In 2006, he was conferred with Conjee Rustumjee Cohoujee Bey Award by the Friends of South Asian American Communities in California (FOSACC).
  • He was presented Army Commander’s Commendation in 2007.
