India & Philippines Conducts ‘Maritime Partnership Exercise’ in the West Philippine Sea 

The Indian Navy conducts a ‘Maritime Partnership Exercise’ with the Philippines Navy in the West Philippine Sea at the South China Sea region on 23rd August 2021.

  • Objective: It aims to further strengthen bilateral collaboration in the maritime domain to ensure a stable, peaceful & prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

Maritime Partnership Exercise

  • The Indian Navy was represented by Indian Naval Ship (INS) Ranvijay and INS Kora, with the Philippine Navy’s  BRP Antonio Luna, Frigate FF151.
  • It included several Operational manoeuvres with the consolidation of Interoperability between both the Navies.
  • The Exercise was conducted in a contactless manner by adhering to the health & safety protocols of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Indian naval ships are currently deployed to the Western Pacific to strengthen maritime security collaboration with partner nations.

About INS Ranvijay & INS Kora

i.INS Ranvijay – It is the Rajput class Guided Missile Destroyer

  • It is equipped with Surface to surface missiles, Anti air missiles & guns, Heavyweight Torpedoes and capable of carrying anti-submarine Helicopter (Kamov 28)

ii.INS Kora – It is the lead ship  of Kora class Corvette in the Indian Navy

  • It is equipped with 3M-24 anti-ship missiles.

In August 2021, India & Vietnam had conducted a Bilateral Maritime Exercise in the South China Sea to strengthen maritime cooperation between both the countries.
