Harsh Vardhan Inaugurates ‘Common Research and Technology Development Hub’ at CDRI, Lucknow

On February 17, 2021, Union Minister for Science & Technology, Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated ‘Common Research and Technology Development Hub (CRTDH)’ – Research Facility at CSIR-CDRI (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Central Drug Research Institute), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) on occasion of the institute’s 70th Annual Day Celebrations.

i.During the event, Harsh Vardhan also announced the recipients of CDRI Awards-21 for Excellence in Drug Research & inaugurated a series of lectures named ‘Atal National Colloquium on Healthcare and Innovation’.

Common Research and Technology Development Hub (CRTDH)

CRTDH aims to provide support to hospitals (for clinical trials) & Pharma Industry, MSMEs and Academia for conducting advanced research in the field of Drug discovery.

  • CRTDH is jointly supported by DSIR (Department of Scientific and Industrial Research) & CSIR online.
  • CRTDH aims to establish and operate a Pharmaceutical Formulation Development and National Clinical Trial Batch Production Facility.
  • It will also Establish & Operate a Unit for GLP (Good Laboratory Practice)-compliant Pre-clinical and Clinical Bioanalysis & Drug Testing.

CDRI Awards-21 for Excellence in Drug Research

The recipients of CDRI Awards-2021 were announced during the event. The awards will be conferred on them during CSIR’s Foundation Day on 26th September, 2021.

The awards are given in the categories of Chemical Science, Life Science.

Chemical Science:

  • Dr Vishal Rai, Associate Professor, IISER (Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research), Bhopal

Life Sciences:

  • Siddhesh Shashikant Kamat, Associate Professor, IISER, Pune
  • Chandrima Das, Associate Professor, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata

Other Awards:

Other Awards announced during the event were

  • Annual Incentive Awards for best technology, Patents, & Publications (2021)
  • Academic Career Achievement Awards-2021

Atal National Colloquium on Healthcare and Innovation

Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated a series of lectures from highly eminent persons named ‘Atal National Colloquium on Healthcare and Innovation’ to commemorate former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s vision and support for ‘Vigyan’ (Science).

Other Notable Events:

i.During the event, a new technology developed by the research team of Dr Atul Goel for Fluorescent Dyes & Quenchers for development of RT-PCR based diagnostic kits were transferred to Biotech Desk Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad.

  • It will enhance the ability of the Indigenous COVID testing kits and has been developed along Government’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

ii.The 46th Sir Edward Mellanby Memorial Oration was delivered by Dr Shekhar C Mande on the topic of ‘Dealing with Infectious Diseases’.

iii.The Union Minister also released the CSIR-CDRI Annual Report 2020-21 during the event.

i.November 11, 2020, National Academy of Medical Sciences(NAMS) (India) announced that Dr Satish Mishra the Principal Scientist of the Division of Molecular Parasitology and Immunology at CSIR-CDRI, Lucknow has won the “Dr. Tulsi Das Chugh Award 2020” for his research work on the life cycle of Malaria Parasite.

ii.On 20th April 2020, CSIR, CDRI with King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has written a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to sequence the virus strains obtained from COVID-19 patients in Uttar Pradesh.
