Hardeep Singh Puri, MoS Civil Aviation, Inaugurated the Kurnool Airport, AP 

Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurates airport in Andhra Pradesh's KurnoolOn 25th March 2021, Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State(Independent Charge), Ministry of Civil Aviation inaugurated the Kurnool Airport, Oravackal in Andhra Pradesh(AP) over a virtual ceremony.The Airport was named as “Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy airport”.

  • Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh attended the inauguration at Kurnool airport.
  • The Kurnool Airport became the 6th Airport in AP to become functional after Kadapa, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Rajahmundry & Vijayawada.

About Kurnool Airport:

i.The airport is classified as ‘3C’ and it is capable of handling turboprop aircraft like ATR-72 and Bombardier Q-400.

ii.The airport is developed on an area of  1,010 acre at the cost of Rs.110 crore.

iii.The airport has a 2000 meter runway and 4 aprons to park the aircrafts.

iv.Under Regional Connectivity Scheme – Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (RCS-UDAN) the flight operations will commence from 28th March 2021. 

Highlights:

i.YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has named the Kurnool Airport after Uyyalavada Narasimha Reddy, the first ever freedom fighter of the region.

ii.He also inaugurated the statue of the former CM YS Rajasekhar Reddy in front of the Passenger terminal of the airport.

iii.He also released a special postage stamp on the occasion of the inauguration of Kurnool Airport.
