Haldia Port tops the list in the first ever ranking of ports on Sanitation parameteres

The Haldia Port of West Bengal has emerged as the cleanest ports among Indian ports on sanitation parameters.

Major facts

  • The ranking of all the 13 Indian ports was conducted by the Quality Council of India. Haldia and Vizag ports receive the first and the second rank.
  • The ranking was based on the efforts made by these ports to address waste generating Haldia Port tops the list in the first ever ranking of ports on Sanitation parameteressources with respect to port operation, office area, and township area.
  • The “Swachhta Pakhwada” was a major sanitation and cleanliness campaign launched by Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari.
  • The campaign achieved solarisation of all 193 lighthouses.
  • Clean and green solar energy is now used by these lighthouses.
  • Emphasis on green ports for sustainable, environment friendly, long term development of ports.
  • Sanitation campaign resulted in renovation of 538 toilets and 265 office rooms.
  • 195 km roads were repaired across major ports and 65,498 new trees were planted.
  • All ports have achieved the benchmark for cleanliness.
