Govt of India Constitutes a National Committee Headed by PM to Commemorate 75 year of Independence Day

Govt constitutes National Committee headed by PMThe Government of India constituted a National Committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to commemorate the 75 years of Independence day which falls on 15th August 2022. The day will be commemorated at national and international level in the form of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. 

India Celebrated the first Independence Day on 15th August 1947.

Members:

i.The committee consists of 259 members.

ii.The members includes,

  • former president Pratibha Patil, Chief Justice of India S A Bobde, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, 28 chief ministers, senior BJP leader L K Advani, several Union Ministers and Governors.
  • Opposition leaders: Sonia Gandhi(Congress), Sitaram Yechury(Communist), Sharad Pawar(Nationalist Congress), Mamata Banerjee(All India Trinamool Congress), Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati(Ex-CM of Uttar Pradesh)
  • Artists: Lata Mangeshkar, A R Rahman
  • Nobel laureate: Amartaya Sen
  • Sports personalities: Sunil Gavaskar, Mary Kom, Abhinav Bindra, Pullela Gopichand, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, PT Usha and Prakash Padukone.
  • Spiritual leaders: Baba Ramdev, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

Celebration of 75 years of Independence Day:

i.The celebration of the 75 years of independence will be launched on 12th March 2021, 75 weeks prior to the 75th Independence Day 15th August 2022.

ii.The day also marks the 91st anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi’s Salt satyagraha from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to Dandi.

iii.The inaugural program will be chaired by PM Modi and the States and Union Territories(UT) will be organising programs in 74 venues across India on the same day.

iv.The Ministry of Culture will be organising a special program on the occasion.

v.PM Modi will also flag off a Padyatra from Sabarmati to Dandi memorial which will culminate on 5th April 2022.

Other Committees:

i.The National Implementation Committee under the chairmanship of Home Minister Amit Shah has been constituted.

ii.The committee will guide the policy and programmes to be undertaken by the ministries of the Government of India.

iii.A committee of secretaries has also been constituted for the same.
