Global Day of Parents 2021 – June 1

Global Day of ParentsThe United Nations(UN)’s Global Day of Parents is annually observed across the globe on 1st June to honour and appreciate the parenthood throughout the world.

The day also highlights the parents commitment to children and their sacrifice towards nurturing the relationship between parents and children.

Background:

i.The United Nations General Assembly(UNGA) adopted the resolution A/RES/66/292 in 2012 and proclaimed June 1 of every year as the Global Day of Parents. 

ii.The first ever Global Day of Parents was observed on 1st June 2013.

UN’s focus on Family:

i.The UN has started to focus on the issues related to family during the 1980’s.

ii.the UN has adopted several resolution to highlight the role of family:

In December 1989, The UNGA adopted the A/RES/44/82 and proclaimed the 1994 as the International Year of the Family and in 1993 adopted the resolution A/RES/47/237 and proclaimed the 15th May of every year as the International Day of Families.
