2020 United Nations Global Climate Action Awards:
i.Along with the solutions to climate change, the award also recognises the efforts towards sustainable development goals like innovation, gender equality and economic opportunities.
ii.The winners of 2020 awards were selected by the international advisory panel as a part of Momentum for change.
iii.The 13 projects that won the 2020 awards fall within the 3 focus areas: Climate Neutral Now, Women for Results and Financing for Climate Friendly Investment.
iv.All the activities will be showcased in a series of online events in November & December 2020.

About Global Himalayan Expedition(GHE):
i.As Recognised by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), Global Himalayan Expedition(GHE) is the world’s first organisation to utilize the force of tourism integrated with technology to enable solar energy to remote communities.
ii.Around 1300 travellers from more than 60 countries have contributed to this expedition, which supported the livelihood of the villages through homestay tourism that generated around 114000 USD income (45% increase in annual income) to the villages.

i.The United Nations(UN) Global Climate Action Awards recognises the best efforts by the nations, businesses, investors, cities, regions and civil societies across the globe to combat climate change.
ii.The awards are spearheaded by the Momentum for Change initiative of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and showcases the most practical and replicable examples of climate change solutions across the globe.
