Four prominent Indian Americans and three Americans have been awarded by Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston (IACCGH) for their outstanding and tireless work as entrepreneurs and for “building bridges” between India and America.
About Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston (IACCGH):-
The IACCGH was founded in 1999 by a group of local Indo-American businessmen and professionals, who came together and worked very closely with the support and guidance of the then Consul General of India in Houston, The Honorable Rinzing Wangdi, to address an increasing need to educate the local businesses and the Indo-American community at large about the India ‘Advantage’ and doing business with India.
- It has since then, evolved into a vehicle of economic empowerment for the local businesses, educating and enabling minority business owners to understand and benefit from programs targeted at small and medium enterprises.
- It also provides access to doing business with the local Indo-American community and to the largest emerging middle class market in the world- India.
- The chamber focuses on local jobs by encouraging exports to India and on bilateral trading opportunities.
- Since its inception in 1999, remarkable changes have occurred both in the U.S. and in India, in the realm of business and society. The last two decades have marked a monumental shift in the Indian market, opening its doors to foreign investment and access to its burgeoning market.
- It has also forced us to rethink economic policies and priorities in the wake of the recession and the realities of market transparency, ethics and the risks and rewards of international collaborations.
- IACCGHexists and operates in the forefront of this very dynamic economic environment and it is our goal to help our members flourish in times of intense competition and change.
- The programs offered by the IACCGH are carefully designed to fulfill the criteria of creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaboration and maximization of resources for our members- a diverse mix of large scale corporations, small businesses, professionals and individuals of Indian origin.
These events also provide a platform for increased visibility for our member audience, access to networking opportunities with other members, non-members, partners and alliances and discounted participation at our annual gala and golf programs.
2016 Awards:-
- The “Young Professional of the Year” – Malisha Patel, chief operating officer of Memorail Hermann Hospital Sugarland.
- Woman entrepreneur award – Revati Puranik, CFO, Worldwide Oilfield Machine, a company that specialises in manufacturing oil and gas equipment.
- Business leader of the year – Bhavesh Patel, CEO LyondellBasell while entrepreneur of the year was given to Abezaar S Tayabji, founder and CEO Shipcom Wireless.
- Lifetime Achievement awards – three Americans, Marvin Odum, former Shell USA president, Richard Huebner, former president Houston Minority Supplier Development and Dr John Mendelsohn, former president M D AndersonCancer Center, for bridging barriers between India and USA.
