English Section Question Pattern

Today let’s discuss about the English Section in competitive exams. What are the sections in English we should concentrate?

These are the sections from which questions are 100% sure for all Bank PO, SO and insurance AO tests.

Para Jumbles (4-5 questions)

5-6 sentences will be given in jumbled order. These sentences are to be arranged in the proper sequence to form a meaningful paragraph.

Cloze Test (8-9 questions)

A passage is given with a number of blanks; each blank has a question number. Five words are suggested for each blank, one of which fits the blank appropriately. The appropriate word is to be found for each question/blank.

Grammatical Correction of Sentences (5-6 questions)

Sentences are given with a bold part in each sentence. Below each sentence are given four possible substitutions for the bold phrase to make the sentence grammatically correct. If the sentence is correct as it is given and no correction is required, (e) No improvement is to be marked as the answer.

Error Spotting (5-6 questions)

Read each sentence to find out whether there is any error in it. The error, if any, will be in one part of the sentence. The number of this part is the answer. If there is no error, the answer is (e) No error.

Sentence Completion (5-6 questions)

In each of these questions, a sentence has one or two blanks, each blank indicating the something that has been omitted. Beneath the sentence are given words or a set of words. Choose the word or the set of words for each blank that best fits the meaning of the sentence as a whole.

Reading Comprehension (7-8 questions)

A passage is given. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow. Certain words/phrases in the passage are printed in bold to help you locate them while answering some of the questions. Find the synonym and antonym for the words (2-3 questions) in the passage is a sure question.

If the total number of questions is 50, a second Reading Comprehension question is asked.
