1. Potable – पीने योग्य

Meaning – safe to drink; drinkable.

Usage – there is no supply of potable water available.

2. Furlough – थोड़े दिन की छुट्टी

Meaning – leave of absence, especially that granted to a member of the services or a missionary.

Usage – a civil servant home on furlough.

3. Gospel – सुसमाचार

Meaning – the teaching or revelation of Christ.

Synonyms – Christian teaching, Christ’s teaching, the life of Christ, the word of God, the good news, Christian doctrine.

Usage – the Gospel was spread informally by missionaries.

4. Mawkish – कुत्सित

Meaning – sentimental in an exaggerated or false way.

Synonyms – sentimental, over-sentimental, overemotional, cloying, sickly, saccharine, sugary, syrupy, sickening, nauseating, maudlin, lachrymose, banal, trite; twee; informalmushy, slushy, sloppy, schmaltzy, weepy, cutesy, lovey-dovey, gooey, drippy, sloshy, soupy, treacly, cheesy, corny, icky, sick-making, toe-curling; informalsoppy; informalcornball, sappy, hokey, three-hanky.

Usage – a long and mawkish poem.

5. Perchance – मुमकिन है

Meaning – by some chance; perhaps.

Synonyms – maybe, perhaps, possibly, for all one knows, it could be (that), it is possible (that), conceivably.

Usage – we dare not go ashore lest perchance we should fall into some snare.

6. Stymie – गतिरोध

Meaning – prevent or hinder the progress of.

Synonyms – impede, interfere with, hamper, hinder, obstruct, inhibit, frustrate, thwart, foil, spoil, stall, shackle, fetter, stop, check, block, cripple, handicap, scotch; informalput paid to, put the kibosh on.

Usage – the changes must not be allowed to stymie new medical treatments.

7. Trounce – अच्छी मरम्मत

Meaning – defeat heavily in a contest.

Synonyms – defeat utterly, beat hollow, win a resounding victory over, annihilate, drub, rout, give someone a drubbing, crush, overwhelm, bring someone to their knees; informalhammer, clobber, thrash, paste, give someone a pasting, whip, pound, pulverize, massacre, crucify, demolish, destroy, wipe the floor with, take to the cleaners, make mincemeat of, murder, flatten.

Usage – Essex trounced Cambridgeshire 5–1 in the final.

8. Mannish – अस्रीवत

Meaning – (of a woman) having an appearance and qualities that are typically associated with men and considered unbecoming in a woman.

Synonyms – manlike, masculine, unfeminine, unwomanly, unladylike, Amazonian.

Usage – a mannish, sadistic matron.

9. Massacre – नरसंहार

Meaning – an indiscriminate and brutal slaughter of many people.

Synonyms – slaughter, wholesale slaughter, mass slaughter, wholesale killing, indiscriminate killing; murder, murdering, mass murder, mass homicide, execution, mass execution, destruction, mass destruction, annihilation, extermination, liquidation, decimation, carnage, butchery.

Usage – a cold-blooded massacre of innocent civilians.

10. Calumny – चुगली

Meaning – the making of false and defamatory statements about someone in order to damage their reputation; slander.

Synonyms – slander, defamation (of character), character assassination, misrepresentation of character, evil-speaking, calumniation, libel; scandalmongering, malicious gossip, muckraking, smear campaign, disparagement, denigration, derogation, aspersions, vilification, traducement, obloquy, verbal abuse, backbiting, vituperation, revilement, scurrility.

Usage – a bitter struggle marked by calumny and litigation.
