Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Inaugurated Around 57000 Water Structures Under ‘Jal Abhishekam’ Campaign In MP

On 11th February 2021, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated more than 57000 water structures in Madhya Pradesh under the “Jal Abhishekam” campaign from New Delhi.  The virtual program was organised in the presence of Shivraj Singh Chauhan Chief Minister(CM) of Madhya Pradesh(MP) at Minto Hall, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, and Food Processing Industries has also virtually participated in the event.

About the Water Structures:

i.These water structures done by CM Shivraj Singh Chouchan along with public participation

ii.These structures were created during the COVID-19 pandemic by linking the works with the MNREGA Scheme.

Objective:

The water structures will support in achieving the goal of water conservation and building self-reliant Madhya Pradesh.

Features:

i.These water structures under the Jal Abhishekam campaign were developed at a cost of more than Rs. 2000 crore.

ii.These were inaugurated under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (NREGA) and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Irrigation Scheme.

Jal Abhishekam campaign:

i.Jal Abhishekam is a water conservation campaign launched to protect the declining groundwater level.

ii.The Jal Abhishekam campaign will reach the goal “Water for every Farm and Work for every hand” which will improve the village, poor and farmers.
