Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched Child Labour Tracking System (CLTS)
Bihar Chief Minister initiated the special commission to protect against the Child labour named as Child Labour Tracking System.
Implemented in: Patna
♦ He allocated the amount of Rs.25,000 /- for safeguarded children from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
♦ He adopted the principle ‘Charter of Demands’ for the prevention of children from the Child Employment.

Sikkim affirms to become the First state in India by having Open Government Data Portal
Sikkim becomes India’s first State to launch open government data portal.
Purpose: Updating data regarding Organic and agricultural and other activities in the portal

BUSINESS

Tata Power to acquire Welspun Renewables in Rs.9,249 crore deal
i. Power major Tata Power Ltd late has agreed to acquire renewable energy company Welspun Renewables Energy Pvt. Ltd. The acquisition is at an enterprise value of Rs. 9,249 crore.
ii. Welspun Renewables Energy has about 1,140 MW of renewable power projects comprising about 990 MW solar power projects and about 150 MW of wind power projects.
iii. The Consolidated 1,140 mw renewable portfolio, nearly 1,000 MW of capacity is operational and balance 140 MW capacity is under advanced stages of implementation.

APPOINTMENTS

Vaithilingam elected as Speaker of Puducherry Assembly
i. Congress leader and former Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the 14th Puducherry legislative Assembly.
ii. The new Speaker announced that Pro-term Speaker Sivakolundhu was elected unanimously as Deputy Speaker as his was the only nomination filed for the post.
iii. He is the ninteenth Speaker of Puducherry Assembly. He is the son of former chief minister V. Venkata subbareddiar.
iv. He was chief minister between 1991-96 and 2008-2011.He presently represents Kamaraj Nagar constituency.

Satya Pal Jain appointed as Law Commission member
i. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Additional Solicitor General of India and former Parliamentarian Satya Pal Jain was appointed as a part-time member of the 21st Law Commission of India.
ii. He will also hold additional charge as an Additional Solicitor General of India.
iii. He is a noted constitution lawyer who has been the Dean of the Law Faculty of Panjab University and is a Member of the Panjab University Senate for the last four decades.

Saina clinches second Australian Open title
Indian Badminton Star Saina Nehwal clinchéd her second Australian Open title after she notched up the win in final against Sun Yu of China at Australian Open Super Series badminton tournament in Sydney.
♦ The Badminton Association of India (BAI) pronounced a reward of Rs. 10 lakh for Saina Nehwal for winning the Australian Open Super Series.

Usain Bolt win the 100m in 9.88 seconds at Racers Grand Prix 2016
i. Jamaican Sprinter Usain Bolt won the 100m in 9.88sec, the second-fastest time in the world this year at the inaugural Jamaica National Racers Grand Prix at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.
ii. The three time Olympic champion measured as the world’s fastest man, won ahead of Nickel Ashmeade (9.94s) and his Racers Track Club team-mate Yohan Blake who clocked 9.94s in a positive 1.0 meters per second wind speed.

OBITUARY

Veteran theatre personality Achyut Lahkar passes away
i. Veteran Actor Achyut Lahkar has breathed his last at his resident, Pathsala in Barpeta district of Assam. He was 85 years old.
ii. He hailed from Pathsala, Lahkar was well-known for Nataraj Theatre in 1963 and gave a rebirth to moving theatre in Assam.
iii. He is not only Actor, he was also a producer, writer, director of his theatre company, Lahkar toured across Assam and many other states to perform plays in his four decades long career.
iv. Famous Dramas that he appeared include -Black Money, Usha, Sankardev and Doctor Babu. He also published and edited a magazine ‘Deepawali’ and was conferred the Kamal Kumari National Award in 1997.

World Day against Child Labour – June 12
i. The World Day against Child Labour is observed every year on June 12, is projected to foster the worldwide movement against child labour across all the forms.
ii. The Day against was launched Child Labour in 2002 in order to bring attention and join efforts to fight against child labour.
iii. This year-2016 theme is End child labour in supply chains – It’s everyone’s business.
iv. This year, the focus is on child labour and supply chains. With 168 million children still in child labour, across the supply chains, from agriculture to manufacturing, services to construction.
