Postal stamp on Ashoka released; Kalam, Manjhi to follow soon
- Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad released a postal stamp on emperor Ashoka on Monday and announced that stamps would also be released soon to honour former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Bihar’s mountain man Dashrath Manjhi.
- This postal stamp in honour of Ashoka would be available for sale in the post offices at Rs.5 per stamp. Ravi Shankar Prasad released the postal stamp during a BJP function to celebrate the birth anniversary of Ashoka.
Haryana to emerge most favored FDI destination
- US and Canada provided overwhelming support to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar new policy that Haryana will soon emerge as the “most favoured FDI destination” in India.
- It is the first Haryana Chief Minister in decades to travel to the US and Canada to attract foreign investment, Khattar lead a high powered State delegation, including Industry Minister Capt Abhimanyu, to New York, Connecticut, Baltimore, Washington DC, San Francisco, Vancouver and Toronto.
- Six memorandums of understandings were signed during the trip by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
- During the trip, Mr Khattar announced to host a “Happening Haryana” conclave next year, to which he said a large number of companies from both the US and Canada have agreed to attend.
Restrict tobacco advertisements in J-K: DGP
- Director General of Police (DGP) Jammu and Kashmir K Rajendra Kumar today directed all district police heads to restrict tobacco advertisements at the point of sales (POS) across the state.
- In an order issued here, the DGP directed all district police chiefs to implement the rules related to section 5 of COTPA (restriction of tobacco advertisements at point of sale).

Justice M L Tahaliyani sworn in as Lokayukta of Maharashtra
Justice (Retd) M L Tahaliyani who is often called a ‘green judge’ due to his passion for nature was sworn in as the new Maharashtra Lokayukta, Governor C Vidyasagar Rao administered the oath of office to Justice Tahaliyani at a brief ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan.
- Justice Madanlal Laxmandas Tahaliyani was the retired judge of Bombay High Court.
- Tahaliyani was born in the Gondia district and studied law in Nagpur before being appointed as the metropolitan magistrate in 1987 at the Bandra Metropolitan Court.
- He was appointed as Judge of Bombay City Civil Court in 1997, Registrar (Inspection) High Court of Bombay in 2008, 2nd Additional Principal Judge, City Civil Court, Mumbai, in 2009, 1st Additional Principal Judge in 2009 and Principal Judge Bombay City Civil Court in 2010.
- He was elevated as High Court Judge on March 18, 2011.
Indian-American Vince Chhabria appointed as a full-time federal judge by Obama
President Obama made appointments of 11 people as full-time judges, among which Vince Chhabria 46-year-old Indian-American federal judge as a full-time judge in the third largest US state California.
- Vince Chhabria was appointed the Bay Area’s first Indian-American federal judge.
- He once clerked for US Supreme Court Judge Stephen Breyer, as well as his brother, San Francisco federal judge Charles Breyer.
- San Francisco-born Chhabria, whose father came to the US from Mumbai on a college scholarship, is a graduate with honours from University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall) and the University of California, Santa Cruz.
- He has issued significant decisions allowing cases, inlcuding that of labour laws, against transport companies.

Rahane, Mishra climb to career best 20th and 39th spots in rankings
- Following his 126 against Sri Lanka in the just-concluded second Test against Sri Lanka, Indian Ajinkya Rahane gained two places to a career-best 20th spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings, while leg-spinner Amit Mishra with a match haul of seven for 72 moved up 42 places to a career-high 39th.
- R. Ashwin’s remarkable outing in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka helped him earn a place to eighth in bowling while holding the second spot in the all-rounders’ rankings.
- Kohli, who was in the top-10 for a long time, is now placed 11th. while Lokesh Rahul (up 30 places to 87th) and wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha (up 15 places to 100th) also climbed up the ladder.
Michael Clarke and Chris Rogers retire from international cricket
- After helping Australia to win the fifth and final Ashes Test against England, Michael Clarke and Chris Rogers made an emotional good bye to international cricket.
- Rogers scored five centuries in his 25 Test career and Clarke played almost 400 matches across all formats for Australia, after making his international debut more than 12 years ago.
- It was a perfect ending for Chris Rogers’ international career as he was named Australia’s man of the series.
- Australia’s retiring skipper, Michael Clarke and retiring batsman, Chris Rogers were both given the guard of honour by the Australian team.
Lewis Hamilton wins Belgian Grand Prix
- Lewis Hamilton beat Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg and wins the Belgian Grand Prix championship. It is only his second win here, after victory for McLaren in 2010, and the first time he has converted pole position to a win.
- It is Hamilton’s sixth win this year and he now leads his team-mate by 28 points in the world championship.
- Hamilton was on pole by nearly half a second from Rosberg and his advantage continued into the race.
- Lewis Hamilton, the championship leader, dominated the race to take his victory in Belgium, his 39th career victory and his sixth of the season.
- Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton, (born 7 January 1985) is a British Formula One racing driver from England, currently racing for the Mercedes AMG team. He is the 2008 and 2014 Formula One World Champion.
Obituary
IndyCar driver Justin Wilson Dies
- 37-year-old former Formula One driver Justin Wilson who had been in a coma since sustaining a head injury when he was hit by a large piece of debris that broke off a car in a crash-filled race at Pocono Raceway died at the hospital.
- Wilson suffered a traumatic brain injury in an accident at the Pocono Raceway which caused his death the following day
