NSCN-K accepted to adhere to all the existing ceasefire agreement for a period of 1-year till 8th September 2022.

Govt  constitutes a Committee to frame New Law for Drugs, Cosmetics and Medical devicesThe Ministry of Health and Family Welfare(MoHFW) has constituted an 8 member panel to frame new laws for drugs, cosmetics and medical devices. It is chaired by V. G Somani, Drugs Controller General of India(DCGI).
Order Titled-  ‘Constitution of Committee for Framing of New Drugs, Cosmetics and Medical Devices Act’.
The members-
Rajiv Wadhawan (director, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare), Dr. S.E. Reddy (member) A.K. Pradhan (joint drug controller), drugs controllers of Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra and IAS officer NL Meena. The committee is allowed to co-opt members if it requires.
Highlights

  • The import, manufacture, distribution and sale of drugs , cosmetics and medical devices is being regulated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. It was amended in 2008.
  • The committee will re-examine the current act and submit a draft document for a de-novo Drugs, Cosmetics and Medical Devices Bill by November 30, 2021.
  • It will involve other stakeholders such as manufacturers, scientists, doctors and patient groups would have been beneficial.

Drug Controller General of India (DCGI)
The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) heads the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO).
i.CDSCO is the central drug authority in India. It is a national level regulatory body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

MeitY Launched PMGDISHA Drive for 100% Digital Literacy in Digital VillagesRajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology(MeitY) launched Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA) Drive under the PMGDISHA Scheme and announced a PMGDISHA Campaign for 100% digital literacy in digital villages under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations.

  • The launch event was organised by Common Services Centers (CSC) e-Governance Services India Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (CSC SPV) under MeitY.

PMGDISHA Scheme:
PMGDISHA Scheme is a flagship Digital Literacy Programme introduced by the Government of India as a part of the Digital India programme in 2017.
Aims:
To make 6 crore people in rural areas, across the States and Union territories(UT), digitally literate, reaching more than 40% of rural households by covering one person from every eligible household by March 2020.

  • The scheme will be implemented by the CSC SPV under the overall supervision of MeitY in collaboration with state governments and UT Administrations.

PMGDISHA drive:
i.Under this PMGDISHA drive, a 3-day certification drive for rural citizens especially women and disadvantaged communities will be organised from September 8th to 10th.
ii.A certification drive for the PMGDISHA scheme will be conducted from September 11th to 13th September.

Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria(RKS Bhadauria) attended the Pacific Air Chiefs Symposium(PACS) 2021 held at joint base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii from 30th August to 2nd September 2021.
The theme of PACS 2021 is “Enduring Cooperation Towards Regional Stability”. 

  • PACS 2021 bought together Air Chief from Indo-Pacific countries (including the United States of America(USA) and 11 other countries) to discuss topics ranging from regional security, air domain awareness to cooperation on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.

South Indian Bank launches ‘SIB – OneCard Credit Card’ in partnership with OneCardAfter SBM Bank-India (State Bank of Mauritius), now South Indian Bank (SIB) has collaborated with Pune (Maharashtra)-based OneCard to launch an app based ‘SIB – OneCard Credit Card’.

  • It is an internationally valid premium metal card on the Visa Signature platform which can be managed through OneCard App.
  • This collaboration is on the lines of SIB’s vision of digital transformation and to cater India’s young population.

Key Features of Card:
i.It has Lifetime validity with zero joining and annual fees along with lowest forex (foreign transaction) fee in the market at just 1%.
ii.The signing process is fully digital.
iii.There is instant virtual card issuance, instant issuance of reward points and easy redemption within the app, etc.
iv.It has NFC (Near Field Communication) facility and also offers contactless easy management of EMIs (Equated Monthly Installment) through app.
Points to be noted:
i.Recently, SBM-India has partnered with OneCard to launch a mobile-based credit card namely ‘mobile-first’ which will be offered through an app.
ii.OneCard has been launched by FPL Technologies – a fintech start-up which aims to digitally revolutionise credit and payments.

Bank of Baroda Launched ‘Bob World’ a Digital Banking PlatformBank of Baroda(BoB), owned by the government of India has launched a digital banking platform Bob World to offer all banking services on a single platform.
bob World, the revamped Mobile Banking application of BOB, was previously known as M-Connect Plus.
With Bob World, the bank aims to provide an all-inclusive and uninterrupted virtual banking experience with all digital banking services under one platform.
Features of Bob world:
i.More than 220 services, which will cover around 90% of all retail banking services, will be offered through the bob world application.
ii.Bob world will also enable digital account opening with instant virtual debit card issuance, online loan applications with instantaneous disbursal for selected loan products.
BoB Tops Scorecard issued by MeitY:
i.BoB has topped the digital scorecard issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for the months of February and March 2021 with a total of 86% marks.
ii.The scorecard ranks 44 banks on various parameters of the digital business.

RBI removes UCO Bank out of PCA RestrictionsThe Reserve Bank of India (RBI) delisted UCO Bank, a Public Sector Bank, from its Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework, as the bank’s earning in the last 1-year till 31st March 2021 has satisfied the necessary conditions for its removal.

  • Currently, the PCA framework monitors only 2 banks – Indian Overseas Bank & Central Bank of India.
  • UCO Bank came out of the PCA restrictions after more than four years. The RBI had initiated prompt corrective action in May 2017 in view of high non-performing assets and negative return on assets.

i.In 2021, UCO Bank witnessed a net Non-Performing Asset (NPA) ratio of 3.94%, which is 151 basis points (bps) lower than its previous position.
ii.Though UCO Bank has been removed from PCA, it will be still under the close monitoring of RBI, and the bank has agreed to comply with RBI’s Minimum Regulatory Capital, Net NPA and Leverage ratio.

i.PCA framework was introduced by RBI in 2002, as an early-intervention mechanism to save banks from closure due to undercapitalisation.
ii.Later in 2017, the RBI revised its PCA Framework, that specifically deals with the problem of NPA

  • NPA – Non-Performing Assets are bank loans, whose principal or interest payment remains unattended/overdue for a period of 90 days.

iii.Narasimham Committee (1998) on structural reforms, recommended merger of banks to solve the problem of NPA.

ICRISAT, a Agri Research Organisation Receives Africa Food Prize 20212021 Africa Food Prize was issued to a Hyderabad based Agri research organisation International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) for improving food security in sub-Saharan Africa.
i.Tropical Legumes Project was carried out by ICRISAT along with the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) to develop and deliver the 266 improved legume varieties.
ii.This was almost half a million tonnes of seed for a range of legume crops, including cowpeas, pigeon peas, chickpea, common bean, groundnut, and soybean.
iii.25 million smallholder farmers had been benefitted with these new varieties to become more resilient to climate change, as well as pest and disease outbreaks.
iv.The project has been implemented in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

Piyush Goyal appointed as India’s Sherpa for G20; G20 Health Ministers’ Meeting 2021 held in Rome, Italyi.On September 7, 2021, Union Minister Piyush Vedprakash Goyal, Ministry of Commerce and Industry was appointed as India’s Sherpa for the G20 (Group of Twenty) by replacing former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu.
ii.India will be part of the G20 Troika (preceding, current, and incoming G20 Presidencies) from December 1, 2021 till November 30, 2024.
iii.On September 5-6, 2021, the G20 Health Ministers’ Meeting 2021 was held under the Italian Presidency in Rome, Lazio (Italy). It was chaired by Roberto Speranza, Italian Minister of Health.
iv.During the meeting, the G20 Health Ministers, including India, have pledged to improve future health security, increase vaccine confidence and tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR) while adopting the Health Declaration.

CAG of India GC Murmu Elected as Chairman of ASOSAIThe Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, Girish Chandra(GC) Murmu has been elected as the chairman of the assembly of Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) for a period of three years from 2024 – 2027. He was elected by the 56th governing board of ASOSAI and approved by the 15th assembly of ASOSAI.
India will host the 16th ASOSAI assembly meeting in 2024.

Satyajit Tripathy Appointed as the CMD of the UIIC LtdThe Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Satyajit Tripathy, as the new Chairman cum Managing Director(CMD) of the United India Insurance Company Limited (UIIC Ltd).  He succeeds Girish Radhakrishanan, CMD of UIIC ltd who retired in June 2021.

  • He will hold the post of CMD from the date of assumption of office to the date of his superannuation (29th February 2024) or until further orders.

i.The United Nations General Assembly(UNGA) adopted a resolution A/RES/74/275 on 28th May 2020 and proclaimed the 9th September of every year as the International Day to Protect Education from Attack.
ii.The first-ever International Day to Protect Education from Attack was observed on 9th September 2020.

Himalaya Diwas 2021 – September 9 Himalaya Diwas, also known as the Himalayan day is annually observed across India especially in Uttarakhand on September 9th to create awareness about the importance and significance of the Himalayas. The day also celebrates the unique biodiversity of the Himalayas.
Background:
i.In 2014, then Chief Minister(CM) of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat proclaimed that the 9th September of every year will be observed as Himalaya Diwas to create awareness about the conservation of the Himalayan ecosystem.
ii.He also announced that the day will be celebrated by the Government of Uttarakhand.
iii.The observance of the Himalaya Diwas was proposed by Ajay Bhatt, senior BJP leader and then leader of the opposition.
iv.The first Himalaya Diwas was celebrated on 9th September 2015.
