CSC Partners with HelpAge India to Afford Digital Literacy to Rural Elderly Citizens

CSC-partners-HelpAge-India-to-impart-digital-literacy-to-elderly-citizensOn 1st October 2020, Common Services Centre(CSC), e-Governance Services arm is a Special Purpose Vehicle (CSC SPV) of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology(MeitY) partnered with HelpAge India, a nonprofit organisation focused on the concerns of elders. CSC Academy, the education arm of CSC and HelpAge India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) under the project of “Aalambana” of HelpAge India which will be implemented for a period of 1 year, to offer digital literacy to the rural elderly citizens of India (above the age of 55).

This was launched on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons

Aim:

The partnership is aimed at digital inclusion and literacy of the rural elderly, with special focus on those disadvantaged amid the time where the online and digital services have increased due to the global pandemic.

Features of MoU:

i.Under this MoU CSC will provide digital literacy to around 1500 elderly citizens, above the age of 55, in the three “aspitational districts” of Karauli in Rajasthan, Birbhum in West Bengal and Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu.

ii.The digital literacy will enable the elderlys to digitally access their entitlements, financial and healthcare services.

Key Points:

i.Through the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan, CSC has been working towards digital inclusion of citizens of disadvantaged groups.

ii.CSC plans to establish around 7000 CSC Academy centres across the country (one in every block) and It already has more than 5000 centres in place.

On August 26, 2020, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CSC (Common Service Center) e Governance Services India Limited to facilitate delivery of UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance) app services to citizens through the network of 3.75 lakh CSCs.
