  • This bridge has replaced an older bridge in Daporijo, which was constructed in 1992 and had severely deteriorated.
  • The design of the new bridge, which is different from the standard drills, was prepared in discussion with professionals at the College of Military Engineering, Pune of Maharashtra.
  • It should be noted that this bridge is the only line of communication to Daporijo and around 451 villages which include locations along Line of Actual Control (LAC) where Indian security forces are deployed.

Reason behind reconstruction:

The bridge has been revamped due to its deteriorating condition and movement of vehicles over it was restricted owing to the huge risk of it collapsing anytime.

In this regard the state government discussed with the Govt of India to take up revamping of bridge. This is why it is reconstructed by BRO.

Point to be noted:
The bridge has been named after martyr Hangpan Dada, who laid down his life fighting terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir and was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra.
