Assam CM inaugurated Centre for Perishable Cargo at LGBI Airport & launched Uberization scheme

The Chief Minister (CM) of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Rs 19 crore 84 lakhs Centre for Perishable Cargo (CPC) at Lokpriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport , Assam in the presence of Chandra Mohan Patowary, Assam State Minister for Transport.

  • He also flagged off an export cargo consignment of 600 kilograms of vegetables on the occasion of the inauguration.
  • He virtually inaugurated 24 Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) at Assam Administrative Staff College (ASSC).

About Cargo Centre:

–It has been built by Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) on a 1705 square metre area which will contain cargo handling facilities for inbound and outbound cargo, cold storage along other measures to export agricultural perishable goods.

From a total project cost Rs 50 lakhs was contributed by the State Government and rest was borne by the Central Government.

Launch of Uberization scheme

In a bid to promote transport sector in the state, the CM of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal  launched the ‘Uberization Scheme’ which will be implemented in association with the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC). For this scheme the state government has sanctioned 339 buses and a outlay of Rs 25 crore.

  • As a part of scheme, the beneficiary can purchase buses with loan from the bank in which he/she would get a government sponsored subsidy of 25%.
  • The buses purchased would be operated under the ASTC in compliance with privately operated bus rules.
  • The sanctioned buses include 100 super buses, 105 short distance buses, 89 city buses, once city bus for other cities, 12 buses for tea garden areas, five buses for developing areas, 11 buses for Bodoland Territorial Region and 16 semi deluxe buses.
